@LoveInner Unfortunately for the life of me I can not recall, I don’t think it was a symphony. I bought a double CD set of some of the music which I believe had whatever we played on it (Kullervo Ovt or Ostrobothnians suite??) but still haven’t played it (!!), maybe tonight?!!…

@LoveInner I’m not generally in favour of these ‘all star pick-up orchestras’ but the NBCSO was superb (helped by Toscanini & the maestros who shaped it at its birth)! Great string sound (some real masters of their art contained within) & 1st trumpet Harry Glanz (that vibrato 💓 )…!

@LoveInner I really like working with Saraste, a character,fine musician. Many years ago we did a concert of Sibelius Symphonies I think 5,6&7…although it may have been something paired with 6&7?…anyway I really liked his thoughts on the 7th, don’t recall details but recall it was good!!

@musicandroots 2/2 maestro got booed, thankfully the orchestra got applauded, after all it wasn’t our fault! Could’ve done with some ‘scissors’ that night!! 😂

@musicandroots 1/2 Took part in performance once, lovely conductor but indulgent, every corner had a ‘moment’ but then never picked up tempo…ended up 10 minutes slower than late Celibidache recording (& that includes applause in its timings!)…

@ClassicalCritic @pghsymphony Worked with him several times in his early conducting career (30 years ago?!!), really thought he had promise & I enjoyed the time…wish he’d come back to us (BBCSO)…a v fine musician & conductor!! Lucky PSO & good for him showing dedication to staying with them!

@LoveInner Many of his early digital recordings were remastered (& balanced)don’t recall if they dealt with the ‘organ problem’ (organ transplant?) in the later CD issue,I recall I liked it generally! Don’t have the original issue to compare,but you can bet the ultra-nerd in me would!

@LoveInner We are definitely in agreement here, I have always found his recordings (& a couple of concerts I attended, sadly never got to ‘work’ with him) Reliable rather than Inspired!

Incidentally, I believe he was liked by the musicians he worked with, RIP MJ.

@musicandroots Having sat in midst of the strings I’ve always felt those huge forces employed were a waste (especially 1st movement)! You only need all the WW because you had 8 horns to start…like making a cake: too dry, addwater, then too wet so more flour, then dry again so add water…etc

@LoveInner @gideon_relyveld Having taken part in this set I will say for someone (me) who’s not a particularly lover of ‘contemporary music’ I enjoyed being part of it. There’s a good feeling of discovery, excitement & virtuosity to the set I believe…& the sound is fab! A proud member of this team!
