BREAKING: Trump administration tells Germany and France to immediately draw down their emergency diesel reserves or face a US diesel export ban, asking the EU to release 120 million barrels over the next six months, per Reuters.
The European Commission, Germany, France, Italy, Britain and Ireland held a call on Thursday to discuss releasing diesel stocks. The IEA, which normally coordinates emergency releases, has not asked Germany to release anything, per Germany's economy ministry, and it is not clear when it will next meet.
"It is in Europe's best interest to work with the United States," a US official says. Europe is the largest buyer of US diesel and the region where the shortage is already worst.
BREAKING: US Embassies across the entire Middle East, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman have just issued new STEP security alerts, warning Americans of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions amid a risk of sudden escalation.
Furthermore, Italy's embassy in Riyadh has told Italians in Saudi Arabia to exercise "utmost caution" nationwide, and to avoid military and security installations and energy infrastructure, the first such warning since March.
Trump said on Thursday he is approaching "a major turning point in the war with Iran" and has "a big decision coming up."
