@bigheadhcky@TheStanchion@Paul_Dhaliwal22 Same pick in number only; you have to factor in the quality of the draft classes between the two years. You're not getting anyone in the same atmosphere as Guenther at 9 this draft. Canuck fans, myself included, were ripping this trade partly due to the known quality @ #9
@Walden_CR@Sportsnet@FriedgeHNIC Mindsets evolve with the times. High scoring dmen are becoming more common and those feats aren't as impressive as they once were, plus the voters are going to factor in how much of a liability he is defensively. If there was a most offensive defenseman award, that'd be different
@Walden_CR@Sportsnet@FriedgeHNIC It's not different criteria in so much that it was the first time since 1991/92 that any defenseman got 100+ points and voters wrongly bought into that hype.
@Walden_CR@Sportsnet@FriedgeHNIC Being a complete wild card defensively hurts when you're trying to win the award for best defenseman. Inflated +/- from being on the ice with McDavid/Drai means absolutely nothing to me
@boogsuge@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN I've had Twitter since 2019 and for the most part, he's consistent with his points and well articulated, but this stubborn aversion to the anything can happen argument was enough for me to break a years long streak ๐
@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN I can agree with all of that! All I'm saying is that this particular string of events leading to this moment beggars belief, and no one can tell me with a straight face that this was their expectation this postseason.
@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN I dont want to oversimplfy your point, but this is sounding an awful lot like 'if it's not a Cinderella team, I don't wanna hear it'
@boogsuge@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN I'm not gonna stoop to name-calling. I have a lot of respect and time for the guy. Sometimes, people are and need to be steadfast and stubborn in their arguments, but there's always room for growth and change
@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN Further to that, if Vegas makes the finals, that's the other team tied for 4th in league standings and Florida can realistically beat them. If that isn't an argument for 'anything can happen', genuinely, I don't know what is.
@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN I totally get that, but more to the point is that a team that was seeded 17th in the total league standings just ran the table on the 1st seed in the league (and we don't have to tread over familiar ground with their season) Toronto (tied 4th) amd Carolina (2nd overall)
@ThomasDrance@FarhanLaljiTSN While I'll admit to the fact that this is definitely an abberation and almost certainly a one-off, continuing to move the goalpost to suit the narrative isn't it, chief.
