Today, NIRA’s Director General, @AbdiwaliAbdulle, alongside Director Abdikani Weheliye of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation’s CRVS Department, and @AbdillahiBihi from the Somali Payment Switch (SPS), took the stage at @ID4Africa 2026 Annual General Meeting, presenting Somalia’s Digital Identity Playbook to African governments, development partners, and digital identity experts from across the continent.
Under the theme “Digital Identity: From DPI to Digital Public Ecosystems,” the Somali delegation highlighted the country’s remarkable progress in building an inclusive and trusted national identity system:
✅ 1.4M+ citizens registered (as of March 2026)
✅ 70 registration centres nationwide
✅ 47% female enrollment
✅ 100+ integrated services
The delegation also outlined Somalia’s bold roadmap ahead: registering 15 million citizens by 2029 — scaling from pilot to nationwide transformation.

A high-level Somali delegation is participating in the @ID4Africa 2026 Annual General Meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (May 12–15, 2026). The delegation is led by the Director General of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) @AbdiwaliAbdulle.
The delegation brings together senior officials from NIRA, Federal Government institutions, and private sector partners. Among them are the Deputy Director General of NIRA, @Abdirahman_Euro, SPS General Manager @AbdillahiBihi, and @somalibankers CEO Dr. Ahmed Khadar A. Jama.
Held under the theme “Digital Identity: From DPI to Digital Public Ecosystems,” the conference gathers African governments and global partners to advance digital identity systems. Somalia’s participation reflects continued commitment to strengthening the national ID system and digital public services.

NIRA DG @AbdiwaliAbdulle, together with Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, today inaugurated the NIRA Office at the Somali Embassy in Nairobi.
Somalis living in 🇰🇪 can now obtain the ID Card at the Embassy; marking the 30th NIRA office established abroad.
Deputy DG @Abdirahman_Euro, met with the Somali Association of Travel & Tourism Agents (SATTA) to discuss linking the National ID with domestic flight ticketing services.
The meeting highlighted the role of the National ID in the regulation and security of domestic travel in 🇸🇴.
NIRA hosted a special #Ramadan Iftar to honor our staff for their dedication & service to the Somali people.
Speaking at the event, DG @AbdiweliTimacadde & Deputy DG @Abdirahman_Euro urged staff to continue upholding professionalism and integrity in their service to the public.
The DG of the Immigration & Citizenship Agency, Mr. Mustafa Dhuxuloow, announced the official launch of the National ID Card for Domestic Travel, aimed at strengthening governance and improving the management and efficiency of internal travel across the country.
