From when City started cheating & financial doping, they have raked in approximately £3.3 billion in prize money & have spent £3.6 billion on transfers.

The poisonous tree which was facilitated by £3.8 billion in commercial 'revenue', which was not as real as they made out thanks to years of financial doping.

It isn't a chicken or egg proposition, none of it exists without the cheating which paved the way for Toure, Aguero, De Bruyne, Rodri, Pep & co.

False accounting is a crime, fraud is a crime, false statements are a crime. No different to stealing, the prize money & trophies were stolen & built on lies.

“The legacy is gone. If it goes the wrong way for them, they’ll be consigned to history as cheats, and whatever they did, whatever they won in that period, should not count.

“There’s an argument for Liverpool to have a couple of Premier Leagues given to them. For City to be stripped of whatever they’ve won in that period of time… money’s not an issue for them, so whatever fine they get is just a scratch on the surface. Relegation [as an option]… I don’t know.

“But I come back to it. I think this is going to open a can of worms, which I think may go well beyond the realms of football.”

It’s really quite hard to overstate the extent to which any judgment on Manchester City is an indirect judgment on Abu Dhabi and UAE. Here’s a chart we made @TheAthleticFC in 2022 underlining where the power lies and just how powerful the Man City chairman is.

Across the nine seasons they were accused of not providing accurate information, Manchester City spent £1.943billion on wages, over £100m more than any other English club. In 17 Abu Dhabi-controlled years to the end of 2024-25, their combined wage bill was £4.963bn.

At Manchester United and Chelsea, the next-highest combined bills in England, the figure is around £600m lower. It is a staggering difference.

Since 2009-10 (the first season the charges relate to), the Premier League has dished out more than £6bn in merit payments to 42 different clubs. City received £559.6m (9%).

They have played in the Champions League every year from 2011-12 onwards, achieving qualification in eight of the nine years the charges spanned.

Such qualification naturally means others missed out. On that particular measure, Tottenham Hotspur were worst hit, landing one spot outside of the Champions League on four occasions during that spell. Their Europa League earnings from those occasions totalled a combined £28.8million; City made £141m from the Champions League in the same seasons.

It is not just those fighting for titles or European spots who may feel they’ve missed out. What of the beaten cup finalists? What of the clubs who might have avoided relegation if City’s results were scrubbed out?

The former Manchester City chairman, David Bernstein, says that his old club need to be punished with more than fines if it is confirmed they were in breach of financial regulations. City’s chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak protested his club’s “innocence” again this weekend following reports that they had been found guilty of the overwhelming majority of the charges. City are expected to appeal.

There has been no indication of potential sanctions yet but these include fines, points deductions, expulsion from the Premier League and transfer bans. “I would first of all say that financial penalties will not be enough,” Bernstein told The Sunday Edition on talkSPORT. "We're talking about a club with limitless pockets – money doesn't mean very much as we saw in the last transfer window. Whether it's (a fine of) £100m, £200m, that would not be sufficient.

"Unfortunately, I say all of these things with great sorrow, I really do as a fan, I think there has to be something that will affect their league status.

"And if it was to be a points deduction, it depends on timing. Because if it was today, with the season just a few games in, and the points deduction had to be something that was terminal as far as their Premier League  status was concerned (ie leading to relegation), I worked out you'd have to have something like 80 points deducted, which would mean the club could not recover this season and would go down.

“But if this happens at the end of the season, because of the appeals and so on, it's a different kettle of fish, and then you may be talking about an automatic relegation – to which division I don't know. I think it does depend partly on the timing.” @talkSPORT
