In December of 1970, the Porter County Open Space Seminar was held featuring ten speakers from national, state and local levels. A major element was the role of the National Park Service in Porter County with the recent designation of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
In October of 1970, the LPCRTPC adopts “Guidelines for Growth”, the 2-county region’s first comprehensive plan. The plan described economy and resources, projected population growth, described existing land use, goals and policies, and set forth a plan for future development.
