This morning I witnessed, at @ABCLogistics in Westland, the arrival of an inaugural shipment of 22.4 tons of @Rwandafresh avocados (around 124,000 pieces), which were sent on 25 October 2023 by @SoukFarms, a Rwandan company that produces prime fruits and vegetables, in the presence of Amb @JoanJJWiegman of @NLinRwanda.

The shipment was received in the @PortOfRotterdam by @BestFreshGroup, a Dutch group specialised in fresh fruits and vegetables, for onward distribution to retailers in several countries in Europe.

#Rwanda will continue its trial of avocado exports by sea freight after a "successful" initial shipment to Dubai last November.

The pilot shipment, which transported nearly 23 tonnes of avocados, was 44% cheaper than air cargo.

HAPPENING: @IDHTrade and partners including NAEB are holding, in Kigali, an Avocado Sea Freight Trial Workshop for a review of the outcome of the first container shipment to Dubai by sea.

This is in line with #Rwanda’s plan to look for an alternative and cheap horticulture shipment means to airfreight which is expensive for exporters.
