Asset Allocation is a Chemistry. In our industry all MultiAsset Allocation Funds have been created to qualify for "equity taxation", so the asset classes are combined to look like Balanced Advantage Funds with 10% Gold. The purpose of the category is lost.
But instead of optimizing for tax, if you decide to make a Chemistry which optimizes for risk adjusted returns, say volatility like ST Debt and returns like hybrid, >fixed income; you will get a totally different suggested mix of asset classes. MAAF created by @WhiteOakCap is meant to be a fixed income + alternative hence the effort to explain that all MAAF are not structured for similar outcomes (mixing asset classes in different proportion has dramatically different outcomes - the range extends from panacea to poison). We have optimized it for risk adjusted returns; low volatility and commensurate returns. And the fund will have hybrid taxation i.e. 3 yr holding is LT & attracts LTCG @ 20% less indexation.
