This is exactly why decentralization is needed. States should have greater financial autonomy. Why should someone sitting in Delhi decide what's best for Tamil Nadu or what kind of metro system its cities need?

How can they fully understand the state's challenges, its priorities, or how its cities will grow in the future? This is one of the reasons many southern and western states feel they're being punished despite their strong economic performance.

Someone should also explain why these cities were rejected in the first place. Last time, the government's explanation was that the DPR submitted by the DMK was faulty. This time, there's no DMK to blame, so what's the issue?
