Well Mr “software engineer”? Let’s get one thing straight: software engineering isn’t an engineering degree. It’s mostly a brief online course that literally anyone can complete, nothing more than a minor topic within their degree. Some things require years of study and brains. This topic isn’t for someone with a certification you did in three months

The fact that you assume chemical engineers are in labs “finding chemicals to improve beer taste,” it instantly shows how clueless and dumb you are, stick to subjects your brain can handle, this is too advanced. Real engineers work through maths, physics, software, programming and the full set for process design, upscaling and systems optimisation , technical work that actually requires an engineering qualification. That versatility is the point of the degree and what makes it special, lets them in any area where their skills are useful.

So if a financial role pays more than lab work, why wouldn’t they take it? It’s practical, it’s smart, and it’s the reason their degree is so respected. You don’t know anything about engineering and attacking chemical engineers who went into finance while you rely on an online certification is CRAZY.

University applications are open, please apply for Wits engineering then come back after 4 years!
