During my visit to Iceland, I met with the Althingi's Foreign Affairs Committee.

I expressed gratitude for the unity demonstrated by both coalition and opposition parties in their support for Ukraine. The best evidence of this unity is the Althingi's program of support for Ukraine, which remains in effect until 2028.

I briefed members of the Icelandic Parliament on the ongoing Russian terror, the blocking of freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, and Moscow's unwillingness to end its aggression against Ukraine.

I expressed gratitude for the Althingi's consistent efforts to hold Russia accountable — through the adoption of resolutions, participation in international formats, and support for the work of the Icelandic government.

We discussed next steps. We are working to prepare Ukraine for the winter, and I received assurances of continued support.

We paid close attention to strengthening our partnership. I confirmed our readiness to share Ukraine's experience and expertise in protecting critical infrastructure.

I thanked Mr. Chair Pawel Bartoszek and all members of the Committee, as well as the entire parliament and Icelandic society, for their strong support for Ukraine — support that unites everyone. We value this solidarity, which reminds us that we are not alone.

🇺🇦🇮🇸 On my way to the UNGA high-level week, I am pleased to pay my first bilateral visit to Iceland.

I held productive talks with my Icelandic colleague, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir @thorgkatrin, building on the recent visits by President Zelenskyy and Chairman Stefanchuk.

I informed my colleague about the situation in Ukraine, Russia's relentless terror, the blockade in the Black Sea, and our ongoing peace efforts.

We followed up on the agreements reached during President Zelenskyy's visit and agreed to accelerate preparations for the signing of the Drone Deal between our countries.

Ukraine is ready to share its unique experience in protecting critical infrastructure with our closest friends, among whom Iceland undoubtedly ranks.

We also discussed ways to deepen practical cooperation between Ukraine and the Joint Expeditionary Force.

Ahead of the UNGA high-level week, we coordinated our positions on the most pressing international issues.

We paid special attention to Russia's destabilising activities across Europe and ways to counter them.

Energy resilience remains a critical issue ahead of winter — and I am grateful to Iceland for its readiness to continue vital support.

I thanked Minister Gunnarsdóttir for her strong personal engagement, for her advocacy of our shared initiatives in every international forum, and for Iceland's consistent and sincere support for Ukraine.

On my way to Canada, I met with Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, @thorgkatrin.

We discussed Ukraine’s preparations for the winter, the protection of our energy sector, and strengthening our air defense. We count on continued cooperation and Iceland’s contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The assistance provided earlier is already yielding concrete results, and we are grateful for that.

We also discussed cooperation in the technology and defense sectors, where Ukraine is ready to share its experience with partners. I am grateful to Iceland for its support.

Ukraine will always be grateful to Norway for all its assistance. This support comes not only from the government, but also from the Royal Family and all the people of Norway.

I recall with gratitude our warm meeting with His Majesty and the special attention he paid to Ukraine. He was a monarch who, for over 35 years, embodied Norway – its openness, dignity, and respect for people. Over that time, our bond with Norway has grown especially strong.

We are grateful that Norway has stood with Ukraine all these years. Thank you for the decisions that are helping us protect people and stand firm today.

Norwegian Prime Minister @jonasgahrstore and I met with executives from defense companies of partner countries. The main topic was the FREYJA anti-ballistic program, which can provide Europe with integrated protection against air threats through the joint efforts of Ukraine, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Together with the leadership of FirePoint, Kongsberg, Weibel, Saab, Diehl Defence, Hensoldt, Thales, Safran, Sener, and Leonardo, we agreed on the specific steps leaders and government officials need to take at their level, and manufacturers and developers at theirs. We expect to see the first practical results.

I am grateful to Norway for hosting this meeting. I thank our partners for their readiness to work together. Protecting Europe’s skies is our shared responsibility.

I had a good meeting with the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre @jonasgahrstore. I expressed my condolences on the passing of His Majesty King Harald V. Ukraine greatly values all the support from the royal family and the Norwegian people.

Jonas and I discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, our need for interceptor missiles, further work on the FREYJA anti-ballistic program, and preparing Ukraine for the winter.

The main issue is strengthening air defense and assistance in other areas that are important for getting through the winter. Today, I made an entry in the condolence book at the residence of the Ambassador of Norway to Ukraine and, on behalf of our country, expressed my deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the entire Norwegian people on the passing of King Harald V.

Ukraine will always remember his support and sincere solidarity with our people. Norway stood with us, especially during the most difficult times for Ukraine.

Over these years, we became close friends. Ukraine has built strong relations with Norway and the Royal Family and will always be grateful for all the assistance and support.

A horrible and sleepless night in Kyiv. This was one of the most brutal Russian attacks to date, with ballistic missiles raining down on our capital one after another.

At least 12 people were killed in Kyiv, and one more in the Kyiv region. A school, a children’s hospital, and residential buildings were severely damaged. Russia also attacked Chernihiv and Odesa regions.

With such horrific war crimes Putin wants to demonstrate complete impunity. Each Russian ballistic missile is an act of barbarism. And each interceptor delivered to Ukraine is an act of humanity and saved human lives.

We know partners who can deliver these interceptors, and we urge them once again to act without delay. Every delay is measured in human lives.

We are informing all states and international organizations of the consequences of this attack, and we urge them to take immediate, concrete steps to intensify pressure on Russia and bolster support for Ukraine.

I urge Ukrainians abroad to take action.

We are calling on the Ukrainian World Congress, as well as all Ukrainian organizations and communities in key capitals and around the world, to raise their voices now.

We call for three critical measures to protect human lives:

- Deliver air defense: Transfer or sell additional interceptors and air defense systems to Ukraine.

- Tighten sanctions: Increase sanctions pressure to cripple Russia’s ability to manufacture these instruments of terror.

- Build defense capabilities: Partner with Ukraine to develop anti-ballistic capabilities.

A rescue operation is currently underway in the Kyiv region following a Russian missile strike. As of now, dozens of people have been reported injured. It has also been confirmed that, tragically, sіх people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Efforts to determine exactly what happened and the fate of those affected are ongoing. All necessary emergency services are on the scene.

There were also casualties in Slovyansk following guided aerial bomb strikes. Five people were killed. My condolences to their families. Nine others were injured. The Russians damaged ordinary homes, the consulate building, and vehicles.

These were brutal attacks on civilians, and the Russians must be held accountable for them. Russia has long abandoned any regard for international norms – and for human values. Their only interest is in continuing the killing. It is important that our partners fully understand that protecting lives also depends on them. Interceptors for Patriot systems are the number one priority.

Today, the European Union took a major step forward.

All Member States agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova.

At the first Intergovernmental Conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process.

It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions.

This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges.

And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable.

By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent.
