the Megaman X series is a cautionary tail about computer based consciousness and AI alignment. In the series, Dr. Light bestows free will on X, then locks him into a capsule to validate he is aligned. Then Dr. Cain finds him and makes tons of copies that end up not being aligned.
@Josikinz@42irrationalist Come on Josie what is with all the 5Meo hate? I get the whole 5Meo guru personalities is a bit annoying, but all other psychedelics also have this problem...Maybe it's a bit more with 5Meo, but that's a bit throwing the baby out with the bath water
@OortCloudAtlas Dude I was JUST thinking about this. The ONLY piece of news I heard about this was because drudgereport headlined that Instagram closed the No Kings instagram handle.
Yea it does...I see this content in my "For you" feed that's all about this stuff about the protests in France, but the content is heavily focused on people being riotous and unruly, from this it seems like it's only people looting and trashing buildings, which ya know, I don't support, but it then provides this very skewed view that THAT is what the riots are all about, and not about some bigger issue.
Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but two weeks off a metta retreat, and I must say, scrolling through my "For You" and "Following" feeds seems to have an explicit effect on my mood. So much hate, division, almost like the feed wants to instill anger inside me.
Well to be fair I can only speak for myself, but disidentifying with thoughts is quite nice, except when those arising thoughts carry intense feelings of desire, want, desperation, anger, shame, rage, bla bla bla, and they continue like perpetual storms. One could argue maybe such a person isn’t as disidentified as they believe they are, which could also be a fair way of looking at it, but I think this goes back to the whole “living your life from your deepest insight”, even though that insight doesn’t seem to be directly present in the moment, you still recall your knowing of how things actually were experienced/seen through, even if they don’t feel very seen through in the moment.
Metta has been the most powerful tool at my disposal for working with this.
I definitely agree. I feel like there is a large amount of people who's ego structures are very self-critical/judgmental, and this group of people seriously needs ego restructuring with metta like practices, so that when dis-identification happens, it doesn't just turn into "Wow I'm not my thoughts, but I sure experience a fuck ton of extremely critical and hateful thoughts about self and other anyways".
