A TRAIN OF THREE TROPICAL CYCLONES
PAGASA is monitoring three tropical cyclones outside the Philippine area of responsibility this Saturday evening, August 8.
None of them is expected to enter the PAR but all three enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat.
Typhoon Dolphin is over the East China Sea and headed towards the eastern coast of mainland China.
Meanwhile, the two tropical depressions northeast of the country are forecast to move away.

There are currently six active weather systems in the Western Pacific (WPAC) basin: Typhoon #Dolphin, Tropical Storm #Chan_hom, Invest #98W, Invest #97W, the remnants of the former Tropical Storm #Kujira (#13W; LPA 08c), and another LPA near Marshall Islands. ⚠️
Low Pressure Area 08c / Remnants of TS Kujira / Tropical Depression
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has reported that the remnants of TS #Kujira (#MaymayPH) have a chance to redevelop and has assessed the system with a LOW chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, @dost_pagasa has assessed the system as having a HIGH chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. They also treating it as a separate system (with the Japan Meteorological Agency) under a different designation: LPA 08c. And, JMA upgrades the disturbance to a non-warning tropical depression this Saturday afternoon.
Model guidance shows an eastward movement over the next 48–72 hours before turning northeastward as the disturbance interacts with Invest #98W.
Invest 98W
PAGASA has upgraded the disturbance to a tropical depression, while JTWC assessed with LOW chance to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
98W will continue move northeastward due to an interaction with TS Chan-hom.
Invest 97W
97W has been downgraded by the JTWC to a LOW chance of developing into a tropical cyclone after making landfall in Hainan, China, earlier today.
Most model guidance shows little to no further development of the disturbance, while some ensemble members indicate a continued southeastward movement toward the northern South China Sea.
LPA near the Marshall Islands
Another disturbance is being monitored by the JMA over the west-central Pacific Ocean, near the Marshall Islands. It is slowly moving westward, and based on current model guidance, the LPA is expected to dissipate by early next week.
Notes:
1. Already made discussions for TY Dolphin.
2. TS Chan-hom to have a separate post later.
3. All these mentioned systems are NOT expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
4. TY Dolphin, along with 97W, 98W, and the remnants of former TS Kujira, is enhancing the Southwest Monsoon (#HabagatPH) across Mainland Southeast Asia and the Philippines.
