⭐🚢 #OTD 28yrs ago #TITANIC won a then historic 11 Oscars out of 14 nominations & became a cultural phenomenon!

✨Just 3days before that, the #LATimes ran the 2nd of 2 really nice articles about me (March 20, 1998) & my transition from #NASA to #Hollywood - & how my 1st movie work was doing VFX work on #TITANIC - headlining it as:

"A 'TITANIC' CAREER MOVE"

🏆At the time of that article, little did we know that 3 days later our team would win the Academy Award for Best VFX!😊

By that time TITANIC had already spent 15 weeks weeks topping the box office, & a record 57M people tuned in to the Oscars & watched Cameron's film absolutely dominate the ceremonies...

✨I'm so proud to have worked with such amazing people on such an epic & incredible movie - wonderful times!!!

Originally made for only ~$500K the film debuted on Dec 6, 1964 - nearly 61yrs ago to this day.

Interestingly, no one at the time foresaw the success & cultural impact this film would have, so most of the precious puppets were lost or even thrown out.

However, 9 of them were given to producer Arthur Rankin Jr's secretary Barbara Adams who gave them to her little nephews & nieces to play with at Christmas.

After enduring years of "abuse" 2 of them (Santa & young Rudolph) were rescued, changed hands a number of times until they eventually were restored & donated to Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia where they reside to this day...

✨So now let's grab a mug of hot🍵cocoa, turn on the ol' TV📺, settle into our conphiest couch, & enjoy this precious heartwarming classic...
