I looked this up because ICE’s framing bothered me. And, well.

One thing almost everyone reacting to this post has no reason to know: Avishay Alon is a transgender woman. The federal court record expressly identifies her that way and uses she/her pronouns.

She also wasn’t apparently picked up roaming Concord during some dramatic “targeted operation.” She was already incarcerated in New Hampshire, paroled to an ICE detainer, and transferred from state custody to ICE.

So I don’t blame people for reading the post the way they did. ICE wrote it to produce that impression.

And for those predicting she’ll receive “special treatment” by being quickly sent back to Israel: removal is literally what ICE is trying to accomplish. The thing to watch is whether she gets to stay, and on what basis.
