📖 GUIDE — What is Nogizaka46?
Formed in 2011. 6 generations.
Over 30 million total sales.
11 consecutive years on NHK Kōhaku.
Back-to-back Japan Record Award Grand Prix winners.
But what truly defines them isn't numbers.
Before every performance,
the members form a circle and chant together:
「努力!感謝!笑顔!うちらは乃木坂上り坂46!」
Effort! Gratitude! Smiles!
We are Nogizaka, ever climbing! 46!
The choreographer created the opening rhythm.
But the three words — "Effort, Gratitude, Smiles" —
were chosen by the members themselves.
This chant has existed since before their debut —
unchanged for over 13 years.
In a world where energy and big personalities
define most idol groups,
Nogizaka46 chose a different path.

💬 SPOTLIGHT — I Can Change in 30 Seconds
If you watched Minami Umezawa's
farewell solo "Mou Hitotsu no Taiyou,"
there's a scene near the end —
she stands facing the camera,
and the costumes of every era
change on her, one after another.
That scene wasn't going to be filmed.
Director Shuto Ito had done the math.
About 25 costumes.
On top of the costume changes,
there was hair and makeup to manage.
Say five minutes per costume,
times 25 —
there wasn't time.
But the staff, every one of them,
said the same thing:
"全部着せたいよね."
We want her in all of them.
The director felt the same way.
There just wasn't time.
So later,
he brought it up with Umezawa —
half as a joke.
She answered right away:
"やりますよ."
I'll do it.
"30秒で着れますよ."
I can change in 30 seconds.
And she changed into every single one
in 30 seconds.
And so it was filmed.

💬 SPOTLIGHT — The Same Song, Watched Differently
May 21, 2026. Tokyo Dome.
Minami Umezawa's graduation concert.
That night, the current 3rd gen members
performed "Sanbanme no Kaze" together.
It was 3rd gen's first generation track,
released in 2017
on the 17th single, "Influencer."
The Center back then was Momoko Ozono —
back when she'd just debuted with 3rd gen,
still often tearing up in front of the cameras.
5th gen's Nagi Inoue
joined in February 2022.
On her radio show recently,
she talked about this song.
When she first joined, she said,
there were still ten or eleven members in 3rd gen.
The song was so loved among the members
that even the kōhai — 4th and 5th gen —
knew it without ever being taught.
Whenever "Sanbanme no Kaze" came on backstage,
they'd all start dancing along.
Then she noticed —
at some point, 4th gen
stopped dancing to it backstage.
That was around the time the senpai
were deciding to graduate, one after another.
The way 4th gen watched the song, she said,
was no longer about enjoying it,
but about taking it in.
On the night of May 21,
when "Sanbanme no Kaze" played
at Umezawa's graduation concert,
not one of the 4th gen members, Inoue said,
took their eyes off the screen.
What went through her mind:
this is a sight I must not forget.
The same song.
At first, twelve 3rd gen members performed it together.
After Umezawa's graduation, only three remain.

💬 SPOTLIGHT — Can We Come Over to Your Place Right Now?
5th gen's Nagi Inoue
told a story on her radio show.
After work one night,
around 8 PM,
she was still hanging around
in the green room.
That's when 4th gen's Nao Yumiki
and Mayu Tamura walked in —
they'd been looking for her.
"Can we come over to your place right now?"
"Wait — right now?!"
They'd been saying for a while
they wanted to come see her cat.
Inoue said yes.
They stopped at a store
for some food and snacks,
and headed to her apartment.
At the front door, Inoue said:
"I'm really sorry,
but can you give me 3 minutes?"
Clothes she'd bagged up to throw away
got shoved back into the closet.
Mail and papers scattered around
got cleared away as best she could.
Three minutes wasn't enough
for the kitchen and bathroom —
but at least the living room
was presentable.
After letting them in,
she had one more request:
"Can I run the robot vacuum?"
Senpai in the room,
robot vacuum running beside them —
that's how the three of them
started talking.
Inoue brought this up again
on the radio later.
She admitted she'd gotten
way too comfortable that night —
lying down while chatting
with her senpai.
Later, she went to
graduated member Shiori Kubo's place.
"Super clean. Smelled amazing."
Inoue had previously said on the radio
that her own place
"had some lived-in vibes,
but was probably fine
for having people over."
After seeing Kubo's place:
"I'm truly sorry to my senpai."
She went home
and cleaned her apartment immediately.
Then announced on the radio:
"Nao-chan, Mayutan-san —
it's super clean now.
Come over anytime."
Meanwhile,
Yumiki's surprise visits weren't stopping.
On her own radio show, she said
that whenever you invite her out,
"Mayu Tamura tags along
as a plus-one."
She tried to drop in
on Satsuki Sugawara.
Got turned down flat:
"Haven't cleaned. No."
Yumiki said
if a kōhai says no, it's no.
"Alright, let's go
to someone else's place."
Next targets:
Teresa Ikeda and Mao Ioki.
Ultimate goal:
Iroha Okuda's place —
to have her cook rice
over an open flame.

💬 SPOTLIGHT — The Treadmill Saga
5th gen's Nagi Inoue
announced on her radio show —
she finally turned on her treadmill.
It all started last fall.
Her rehearsal studio
was in an awkward spot —
trains required a detour,
taxis cost too much.
On foot, she only had to leave
10 minutes earlier than the train.
So she walked.
Then winter came. Too cold.
She stopped walking entirely.
Around Christmas,
a few 5th gen members
got together for a party.
Late into the night, it hit her:
"Ah — I wanna walk,
but it's cold, I can't —
treadmill!"
She ordered one that night.
A Christmas gift to herself.
It arrived after New Year's.
She didn't touch it.
About four months.
She finally thought,
"I should at least take it out of the box,"
and pulled it out.
The remote needed a coin battery.
Sold separately.
Not the kind you keep at home.
The treadmill went back under her bed
without a battery ever going in.
Then her mom came to visit
from Yokohama.
They had dinner, spent the evening out,
and on the way home,
her mom suggested getting ice cream.
They walked into a store —
and she spotted the coin batteries.
She dropped them into the basket.
Then added an energy drink
that cost about ¥1,500.
Her mom paid for everything.
In her own words —
"I'm 21
and I still let her buy everything."
Back home, she put the battery in.
The treadmill finally turned on.
She also downloaded Pikmin Bloom —
a walking app that grows Pikmin
with your step count.
Part of the fun is going to different places
and collecting local Pikmin.
But she walks on a treadmill.
In her apartment.
Every single Pikmin
comes from the same spot.
"Completely homegrown."
She did find one big advantage, though:
you can use your phone while walking.
Watching anime, checking rehearsal notes,
handling work —
an hour goes by without noticing.
Her conclusion:
"Now I have even less reason
to leave my apartment.
Exercise, work —
I can do it all on the treadmill.
I can't find a single reason
to go outside."

💬 SPOTLIGHT — The Only Thing She's Ever Been Complimented On
5th gen's Nagi Inoue
once said this on her radio show:
"Just so you know —
I'm a really negative-thinking person.
My whole life,
I've never been complimented
on anything but my face.
I'm really sorry —
a Nogizaka member saying this
is really weird."
"Thanks to my parents,
I was born a little cute,
so I managed to get into Nogizaka.
But I'm really not an interesting person —
I've been getting through everything
on looks alone —
which, on radio, you can't even see."
Four months later,
fellow 5th gen Teresa Ikeda
came on the show as a guest.
The first thing Ikeda said:
"By the way, your face really is beautiful.
When I first walked into this studio,
your face was so good-looking
that I thought this radio show
was running on your face alone."
"I think you're too beautiful —
we're sitting across from each other
talking into microphones right now,
but I'm already losing focus."
Inoue burst out laughing.
They kept teasing each other on and off
for the rest of the show.
