I still dream of playing football.

That might surprise you, coming from someone who plays it for a living.
But it’s true.

I still dream of playing with my friends.
Playing until sunset. Until dinner.
Playing just because it was a game, long before it could become a career.

I have followed this dream for as long as I can remember.

Once again it has led me to one of the biggest changes in my life.

Now, I find myself surrounded by innovators who dream of the same things I do.

Of bringing foot as close as possible to ball.
Of bringing the people as close as possible to the game.
Of bringing the world as close as possible to play.

I guess that’s the thing about dreams that refuse to change.
They’re usually the ones that change everything.

This weekend in Madrid is a special one for me as it's my 600th consecutive F1 race attended without missing one, a run that started in Japan in 1994. I believe I'm only the fifth person in the paddock to reach that number without a break - and I'm the only one on the list who is still adding to their streak.

Of course there are a lot of other F1 folk who have been around longer than me, and have logged higher overall totals. However, most missed races here or there, or had spells of gardening leave between teams, and so on.

In my first decade as a journalist I covered other championships, and I only did the odd GP. My overall total with a media pass is now 615 (not counting 12 I went to as a young fan). The craziest number is that including testing I've spent well over seven years of my life in the F1 paddock...

I'm quite proud of the fact that I've managed to keep going for 32 years, even through the Covid times. It's not been easy in many ways - and as a freelance I've done all the travelling at my own cost.

However, I know that I've been very lucky to be able to do a job that I could only dream about when half a century ago I was a 10-year-old fan attending my first F1 race. Hopefully I'll hit the 700 mark at some point in 2030... 😊

Henry was addressing Fabregas on the CBS show before that Como-Leipzig game.

He said “Cesc”, and followed with “sorry, ‘coach’, I shouldn't say Cesc”.

That's how to show respect.

Henry is part and parcel of the Como story. He's an investor and a stakeholder. He is friends with Fabregas too but in that instance, he was doing his job and Fabregas was doing his too. That mark of respect was important.

I'm not sure Fabregas would care much, but Henry understood the sensitivity of that moment, and the example he had to set.

That's how to lead.
