In this video, Professor Mbekezeli Mkhize introduces a focused six-month programme designed for current and future leaders who want to understand and respond to the major geopolitical shifts shaping the world today.
The programme explores key concepts such as diplomacy, diplomatic practice, national interest, protocol, etiquette, African agency, economic diplomacy and multilateralism. These concepts form the basis for how Africa engages with the world and for how leaders can contribute to conflict resolution, trade and investment negotiations, and stronger bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral relations.

Robust Engagements in George I Unisa Western Cape and Municipalities unite for future strategic partnerships
The Western Cape Region successfully facilitated and co-ordinated two strategic stakeholder engagements on 03 June 2026 in George, both of which were exceptionally well received and yielded positive outcomes.
The first engagement involved a site visit to a former hospital building currently under consideration by Unisa as a potential medical training facility. The second engagement, held at the George Council Chambers, brought together representatives from the George Municipality, George District Municipality, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and the Unisa Department of Operations and Facilities to explore opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, the catalytic niche areas, and the potential allocation of land for the establishment of a farm to support teaching, learning and research initiatives.
These engagements reflect Unisa’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that advance academic excellence, innovation, research, and regional development.
The positive reception and constructive outcomes of the discussions underscore the value of collaborative engagement in addressing societal needs and creating sustainable opportunities for growth and knowledge generation.

In My Capacity, as Vice-Principal: Operations and Facilities, I had the privilege of engaging with the leadership of George Municipality in the Western Cape as part of UNISA’s ongoing efforts to expand strategic partnerships that advance higher education, research, innovation and community development aligned with the Catalytic Niche Areas advanced by our Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
This visit to George focused on exploring opportunities for the establishment of a UNISA Global George Thematic Platform, with a particular emphasis on postgraduate medical research, clinical innovation, agricultural development and sustainable regional growth.
As Vice-Principal: Operations and Facilities, I remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen institutional infrastructure, unlock new opportunities for learning and research, and position UNISA as a catalyst for inclusive development across South Africa.
I would like to thank George Municipality for the warm reception and constructive engagement. The University of South Africa (UNISA) looks forward to the opportunities that this partnership will yield for the university and the people of George.

Fidel Castro explains why the US despises Cuba and is desperate to destroy it: "Our country does not drop bombs on other people, nor does it send thousands of planes to bomb cities. Instead our country sends doctors to those most lost corners of the world."
The University of South Africa (Unisa) recently hosted a two-day workshop to strengthen resilience and improve student retention among students with disabilities within the institution. The workshop, held on 23 and 24 April 2026 at the Sunnyside Campus in Pretoria and online via Microsoft Teams, formed part of the university’s ongoing commitment to inclusive education and student success.

South Africa is plagued by the scourge of gender-based violence, which has been classified as a national disaster by the government. For years, Prof Jolandi le Roux-Bouwer's research has focused on intimate violence and the criminal laws that respond to it.
