Extremely interesting. Let’s say you want to steel man the argument that he wasn’t running an international sex trafficking network, this would not help in doing that.

It is politically possible at the state level but not legally enforceable without state legislation.

With Hochul opposed and no obvious Albany champions, it’s unlikely to become law unless Mamdani can negotiate a compromise (e.g. revenue-sharing, broader tax reforms, or infrastructure trade-offs).

The strategic path forward is going require a lot grassroots effort and coalition building with other groups that represent older working class groups.

If he is to succeed, he will need to spend nearly all his time between and the election to do that. That way, he will get more voters on 11/4 who will come out of the woodwork because they will know that the social programs they support and need will not be more empty promises by politicians. He has a lot of pressure on him and will likely make mistakes, but if he keeps his eye on the prize to increase the likelihood that he will be able to implement a state tax increase, voters will naturally continue to support him.

I understand and agree with the moral hazard of forgiving the debt. But then I ask myself who am I to speak of moral hazard, especially when viewing it from the lens of a moral hazard we have created vis-à-vis Israel and funding what is happening in Gaza and even being drawn into a war of Iran, that is not one of necessity, in my humble opinion, which is mainly based of previous historical experience.

Just trying to say it’s difficult to say no to our own citizens who want a better life.

I think the solution is we clamp down on hyper capitalism because capitalism is a superior economic system, but when it gets pushed too far out, it starts becoming self-destructive.

Socialism is not the answer, but we may need to allow the pendulum to swing back to that direction and offer a different version of capitalism, which doesn’t lead to such an economic divide in our society that we currently have.
