The Sacramento Police Department is grieving the loss of Marysville PD Officer Rodarte, who was senselessly killed in the line of duty this morning.
Officer Rodarte graduated from the Sacramento Police Academy Class 22BR-1. Our hearts are with Officer Rodarte’s family, friends, co-workers, as well as his academy staff & classmates.
Officer Rodarte’s bravery, commitment, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Officer Rodarte.
❤️ all the comments @TheCityofSac Council Meeting that understand how important investing in Police services is for all of us & for the future of this City. You can’t grow revenue to fund programs if people don’t feel SAFE living and enjoying events in the City!
This video is reflective of other police agencies w/ staffing issues. Police Dept are down in staffing, officers are working harder only to have people ask why can’t we cut your vacancies? Not a safe question to ask for officers or for community #overworked#suppyanddemand
We got problems. Big problems. If major action is not taken soon, we fear the damage to SFPD may be permanent.
We’re not sure if those who should know—know how bad things are or if they’re too afraid to look. SFPD delivered its 4th major staffing report since last October. We’re not sure if anyone noticed. What we are sure of is that we’ve seen a lot of charts but no bottom line on the current state of affairs.
Well, in this video, we do just that. We explain where we are at, where things are going and why you should close your eyes and grab the oh sh!t handle above the passenger seat.
@BobNEastSac Hello sir, I’ve retired but I also follow PD on X and still see post updates. PD also uses Facebook and Instagram for more stories and I would suggest following those too
Remember to VOTE! As a long time city resident, I support a City that provides basic services like police, fire, sanitation and clean streets. Look at our streets…it’s only gotten worse in just a few years. I voted for Phil Pluckebaum!
Vote Sac Town! We fail by electing those who want to save the world but not our city, care more about anti-police than law & order, prioritize personal beliefs over neighborhoods, who listen to the 10 people yelling at council over hard working people who can’t make it to the mtg
We are celebrating 175 years of the Sacramento Police Department! Service, Protection, and Dedication since 1849.
Our police department is one of the oldest in California and has a history dating back to 1849. The department has evolved and grown in many different ways. We have faced various challenges but have always remained committed to serving and protecting our City. We have expanded our capabilities, incorporated new technologies, and refined our approach.
Throughout the year we will be highlighting different moments in our history to celebrate and honor our 175th Anniversary!
SPD Violent Crime Reduction Strategy Update and Announcing of OVP Grant Awards
In June of 2022, The Sacramento Police Department announced our Violent Crime Reduction Strategy, to address violent crime in our community. In 2022 we also applied for and were one of six cities selected by the U.S. Department of Justice, to be a Public Safety Partnership location. We were awarded that grant last October.
As a result, we have seen a drop in violent crime this year. In January 2023 through September 2023, our robberies are down 6.1%, our aggravated assault cases are down 21.1%, our rape cases are down 40.1%, and our homicide total is down 40.0%, compared to the same timeframe as last year. In total, these violent crime numbers are 18.2% lower, when compared to the same 10-month stretch in 2022.
This reduction in crime is in part due to reallocating of resources within the Police Department, focusing on intelligence led policing strategies, and collaboration with law enforcement partners and the community.
Today we are also announcing the grant awards for some of our Community Based Organizations. We are happy to announce that five local groups have been awarded grant opportunities to support the Evidence-Based Community Violence, Interruption, Disruption, and Suppression program (EBCVIDS). We are also awarding nine organizations grants to further the Gang Prevention and Intervention Taskforce (GPIT) goals.
Kathy Lester, Chief of the Sacramento Police Department, would like to thank the officers and community partners who have worked tirelessly to reduce violent crime in our city.
We would also like to acknowledge several organizations who have played a vital role in our violent crime reduction efforts. These partners include Sutter Health, Sacramento County Office of Education, DEA, FBI, ATF, U.S. Marshalls, and U.S. Attorney’s Office, Office of Violence Prevention, and Community-Based Organizations.

We encourage members of the community to continue reporting these dangerous and reckless sideshows by calling our dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.
Thank you for helping us keep the city and county of Sacramento safe.
Today, @DCRSacramento, Code Enforcement and the @SacPolice's Impact Team collaborated to engage approximately 20 people experiencing homelessness at Alhambra and W St. to voluntarily come into compliance with City ordinances. Two people accepted spots at SafeGround in Miller Park
Today @dcrsacramento and the @sacpolice IMPACT team met with a man who, after 6 years unhoused, will relocate to Miller Park to connect with services. By working together in a coordinated response, the @thecityofsac can create more positive outcomes for unhoused people.

In the month of June 2023, Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to three separate robberies that occurred in the south Sacramento area. Detectives from our Neighborhood Crimes Unit (SOUTH) quickly initiated investigations into these robberies and found that they appeared to be related. During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 31-year-old, Terrance Boxley of Sacramento. On 6/27/23, our Neighborhood Crimes Unit, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and K9 officers located and arrested Boxley. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.
