It’s not a 2-way conversation. The Citizen's Police Academy gave me a greater empathy for what it’s like to be an officer; but it's not clear that law enforcement has sympathy for the devastation and pain we feel when some officers use excessive force. https://t.co/E3npk3E68g

The Electoral College no longer makes sense because an unpopular, but duly-elected President is illegitimate and threatens Americans’ ability to coalesce behind her or him.

Similarly, a winning U.S. President can’t rely on just the most populous states to win. But, under our current Electoral College system, it takes just 11 states to win the presidency, despite the will of the other 39 states.

In 2018, @BetoORourke's margin of loss by 2.6% in Texas was close due to a lot of factors including the fact that he campaigned all over the state and not just the most populous areas. He proved that a winning campaign can’t rely on just the most populated areas to win.

The argument that candidates will only visit the most populous states falls apart. In Texas, Democrats largely control 5 of the 6 most populous counties, but Republicans have dominated statewide elections with their strength in less populated rural and suburban areas.

It seems silly and unfair to me that someone could lose the popular vote by millions and still be President. We elect Senators and Governors through a popular vote ... which seems fair and works pretty well.

Whether it be the direct election of U.S. Senators or expanding number of people who can vote, I’m proud of our tradition of making sure that our government is increasingly more representative of its people.

The Founding Fathers got quite a few things right about democracy and several things wrong. Over time, Americans have corrected the Constitution to be more representative and less anti-majorian.
