Met with @alexstubb and @jonasgahrstore in New York. Finland and Norway are very strong partners of ours, and I am grateful for the substantive exchange we had. Of course, first and foremost, we discussed the winter package and protecting our energy infrastructure from Russian attacks. We are working to strengthen air defense as much as possible before winter sets in and to deprive Russia of its bet on ballistic terror. I also briefed them on the talks and meetings with the American team. There is no alternative to peace. And Russia must be pressured further – through sanctions and support for Ukraine – so that it learns this too.
And today, Alex and I also signed a Drone Deal – an important step for the joint protection of our people and an even stronger partnership between our countries. We are always ready to share with our closest friends what has helped us protect lives. Thank you!
Say hello to our new colleague Morten Høglund!👋
Morten is our new Minister Counsellor and head of the Economic team at the Norwegian Embassy in Washington DC.
He comes from the position as Arctic Ambassador for Norway.
25 years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the 🇺🇸, we commemorate the 2977 lives lost and all those who still suffer the consequences.
Europe and America stood shoulder to shoulder in its aftermath.
Our transatlantic bond remains the best defence of our security and freedom.
We are grateful for the solidarity of the American people during Norway's time of national mourning.
Thank you to A/S Hanrahan and Ed Dunn of @StateEUR for signing the book of condolences for King Harald V. We also appreciate the countless messages sent from across America.
A whole nation is in mourning and the people of Norway are left with a deep sense of gratitude for a long life in the service of Norway. https://t.co/lIk8burtbn
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, we honour the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine fights for freedom. For sovereignty. For democracy. It’s a fight for Europe’s security. Norway will continue our strong support and a strategic partnership #StandWithUkraine
Ukraine fights for its freedom, sovereignty, peace and for Europe’s future.
On Independence Day, I pay tribute to the brave soldiers and civilians who endure Russia’s daily attacks with extraordinary courage.
Norway stands with Ukraine - now and for the long haul. 🇳🇴🤝🇺🇦
I condemn this unacceptable double-tap Russian attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, first on the centre and then on those who rushed to its aid. Civilians and emergency responders are to be protected, not targeted.
Constructive meeting with Deputy @USTradeRep Jeffrey Goettman. We discussed the longstanding trading relationship between Norway and the US. I reiterated Norway’s firm opposition to the Section 301 investigations of Norway. I look forward to continuing our dialogue on this issue.
We even have a resident Mouser!
After taking shelter with Chef Eilif during last winter's big storm, Bean was duly promoted to Head of Anti-Rodent Operations.
These diplo-cats answer to no one 🐱🐾
It's International Cat Day, and we're celebrating our fluffiest colleagues, many of them adopted right here in the United States.
In August 2008, Russian troops invaded #Georgia. 18 years on, the occupation persists. In Georgia as in #Ukraine, we once again call on #Russia to end its blatant violation of international law and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbours.
Yet again, massive Russian attacks on Ukraine have caused further suffering, destruction and tragic loss of life.
Such attacks against the civilian population are totally unacceptable. Norway stands firmly with Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence. 🇳🇴🤝🇺🇦
Thank you, dear @EspenBarthEide, for standing firmly with Ukraine.
Every Russian missile aimed at civilians is further proof that the Kremlin has chosen terror over respect for international law. The answer must be stronger support for Ukraine and decisions that further limit Russia's ability to wage this war.
Norway is deeply concerned by reports of recent executions in Iran tied to the January 2026 protests. Norway opposes the death penalty under all circumstances and urges Iran to refrain from further executions, respect human rights, and move towards abolishing the death penalty.
Russia continued its brutal attacks on Ukrainian cities & civilians today, destroying Latvia’s Honorary Consulate. Targeting civilians is a violation of international law. Norway 🇳🇴 will continue to support Ukraine 🇺🇦 & we stand in solidarity with Latvia 🇱🇻
I had a call with my Norwegian friend and colleague @EspenBarthEide to discuss Russia's escalating attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea and our joint efforts to protect freedom of navigation and global food security.
Russia is deliberately putting at risk the safety of commercial routes and food supplies for millions of people worldwide. This threat requires a strong and coordinated international response.
We focused on stronger defense cooperation and additional support to protect Ukrainian skies. Closing the gaps in our air defense remains one of the most urgent tasks.
I also thanked Norway for its valuable support for Ukraine’s engagement with partners across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and other regions of the world.
Norway’s support for Ukraine is steadfast, comprehensive, and deeply valued. We are grateful for its leadership, solidarity, and readiness to act wherever stronger support for Ukraine is needed.
As we mark this solemn anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to democracy, openness, and inclusion—and our determination to stand against extremism, violence, and hatred in all its forms. Never forget.

Today we remember the 77 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of July 22, 2011. A far-right extremist targeted Norwegian democracy, first with a car bomb in Oslo's Government Quarter that killed 8 people, and later on Utøya, where 69 people were murdered.
At the heart of the memorial is Upholding, a stone mosaic by artist Matias Faldbakken depicting a small wading bird native to Utøya. The artwork rests on the steel structure used to relocate Picasso's mural The Fishermen during the reconstruction of the Government Quarter.
