A Zionist is a person who supports the Jewish people's right to self-determination and a secure national state in their ancestral homeland.

That's what it means to be a Zionist. It doesn't mean non-Jews can't or shouldn't live in Israel; millions do.

In 2005, Israel removed every Israeli community from Gaza and withdrew its military presence.

Months later, Palestinian voters gave Hamas a majority in legislative elections, and by 2007 Hamas had seized full control of Gaza.

That history matters because Israel actually tried withdrawal. Instead of Gaza becoming proof that two peoples could live peacefully side by side, Hamas turned it into a base for attacks against Israel.
