You might be wondering why Cena tapped out.

Just look at his face. He was smiling. That tells you it was intentional, not about pain. He already said months ago his body is giving up and age is catching up.

This was his way of saying he still loves wrestling and still has the passion, but his body cannot keep up anymore.

That tap out did not make him look weak and it did not go against the "Never Give Up" mindset. That smile said everything.
