I grew up in a Council estate. My sperm donor waste of space of a “Father” fucked off when I was 4. We couldnt afford to light two fires so we lived out of the kitchen.
We couldnt afford a phone. Mam used to run across to the neighbours with 20p if she needed to make a call.

We had no car, we walked 15km every Sunday to my Aunts house for dinner, then 15km home. Mainly because we couldn’t afford 7 dinners a week.

Mam skivvied in rich peoples houses for pittance to keep a roof over our heat. She cleaned their shit off the toilet seat so I could have the basic necessity of food.

As a bastard child to a single Mother in early 80s Catholic Ireland, we were shunned. Our house an easy target for the local scumbags to drop bangers and bags of shit through the letterbox.

My first Holiday was at the age of 14. That’s not foreign Holiday, that’s the first time staying in another county.

She always made sure there was bread. Bread is the miracle meal. Toast, sugar on bread, bread dipped in tea, soldiers and toast. Mam regularly went without meals while I ate.

Sometimes we had electricity, sometimes it was cut off. On the bright side, you can still play I spy and Xs & 0s under candlelight.

I was one of the lucky ones Cllr Finn. At least I had a roof and a mother. Too many others were taken from their Mams and buried or sold to America for daring to be born out of wedlock.

Must be easy to look out of your ivory tower and tell us how privileged we are.

Talk about out of touch.
