Lindsey Graham’s latest scheme is convincing Republicans that it’s somehow better to loan Zelensky $60 billion, rather than give it to him. Some are falling for this. But it’s fraudulent. Ukraine will never repay the debt, and we’ll never make them. A few week ago, the world was watching, practically in real time, a brilliant special services’ operation in the US territory. The operation started in Pentagon, then continued in a hospital.

Unexpectedly for all, including his elderly boss, the US minister of defense suddenly fell off the map. The former probably wouldn’t have noticed at all unless the public had been alarmed. Like, where is our Commander?

And so, speculations followed. The main nuclear briefcase, containing the Minuteman and Tomahawk missiles’ codes, where was it? In the surgery room with the minister, or went somewhere on its own…?
Being a US defense minister looks fun. It’s all up to you, you disappear from radar, and go back again if you wish. Getting well is good enough! And the nuclear codes are kind of (or aren’t they?) once again in safe hands. Everything is under control, according to the rules and doctrines. All they had to say in the White House was, well, there was some problem. That we hadn’t been contacted… As for the rest, it’s a shitty question.

It’s just that the world is a little scared: what was happening to the briefcase while his owner was ill? Whose hands has it been to? Who has learned the American missiles launch codes? What if, Iranians? Or worse, Russians? Might have rewired everything in there and prepared the US nuclear arsenal for self-destruction.

It looked like there would be no answer.
