Would like to shed more light on this issue. The facts are as follows:
1. We confirm that David Turyatunga is our member.
2. It is misleading to state that he has not been paid benefits due to him. He has twice lodged a benefits claim with NSSF, and he has been paid on both occasions.
3. He lodged the first claim in August 2004, and all his available contributions and attendant interest were paid to him as an Invalidity Benefit.
4. In 2025, the Fund learnt that the member had instituted a case against his former employer before the Industrial Court, seeking unremitted social security contributions and damages. The labour claim is still ongoing before the Court.
5. On 27, March 2026, the Fund received Ugx 3m, being standard social security contributions remitted through the Industrial Court on his behalf. The money was credited to his member account.
6. In May 2026, the member lodged a second claim for benefits and specifically requested a partial withdrawal. A benefit was subsequently paid to him on 15th May 2026.
We are constrained to discuss the details regarding the exact amount of unremitted social security contributions by his former employer because this matter is still ongoing before the Industrial Court. We await the outcome and orders of the Court and will act accordingly.
The facts clearly show that on both occasions that he has lodged a claim for his benefits, the Fund has paid him.
Our benefits claim process is transparent. We assure our members and the public that a qualifying saver who has lodged a claim has been paid.
We continue to build more efficiencies to improve the turnaround time.
65-year-old David Turyatunguka worked for the Coca-Cola Company for about six years as a crate loader. In 2021, he developed a back condition that left him with a disability, prompting him to stop working in 2022. Since then, he has been unsuccessfully pursuing his NSSF retirement benefits. He lodged a complaint with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and Coca-Cola was penalized, bringing the total amount he is claiming to UGX 50 million.
