We were delighted to host Chief Minister Natasha Fyles at the yards today. After a rough weekend, she was straight back to work to talk up the new Netflix drama being filmed in the NT. Our chairman Ken Vowles was on hand for crowd control, but all cattle were very well behaved.
A "massive amount" of northern Australia's cattle herd is suddenly not suited to the #LiveExport trade with Indonesia

The lifting of restrictions on seven export yards by Indonesia is being welcomed with relief across the northern Australia cattle industry, but clarity is still being sought on conditions agreed to by Governments of both countries

A strong 'Team Territory' effort has been decisive in achieving a much-needed breakthrough for livestock exporters supplying Indonesia. More work to be done, especially to support the many NT supply chain businesses left in limbo for several weeks by the recent restrictions.
NT Ag Minister Paul Kirby visited key parts of our export supply chain today, including Don and Kelly White at Bridge Creek. With significant trade uncertainty for so many northern livestock business operators, we are very grateful for the Minister’s ongoing advocacy and support.
Thanks to Rob Williams (NT Chief Veterinary Officer) and Jed Matz (new DITT Deputy CEO for Agriculture and Biosecurity) for joining us yesterday at Darwin Port to see first hand the northern livestock export trade in action and our rigorous animal health standards being upheld.
"The other significant side to the Katherine Show Sale a few weeks back is it's great to see happy Australian exporters and importers in Indonesia proudly receiving quality Australian Brahman cattle." - Leo Neill-Ballantine, Elders Katherine
The number of livestock shipped from Port Darwin in 2023 has now surpassed 130,000 head, with almost 90 per cent exported to our customers in Indonesia. A further 3200 vet-checked, disease-free cattle were loaded yesterday on the Brahman Express and are now sailing to Lampung.
16,763 livestock shipped from NT in July to Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. August’s first ship loaded today for the Philippines which, like all livestock exported from Aust, were vet inspected by an AAV and Govt RVO in quarantine to confirm health & disease-free status.
Want to learn more about the unfolding situation with live cattle exports into Indonesia? 📺 Tune in 7pm AEST tonight. We'll have @MurrayWatt and Chief Vet Mark Schipp providing an update. Click here to join (no registration). Pls RT 🙏 https://t.co/dzUKhxugM6 #agchatoz#ausag
Australia remains free from lumpy skin disease in cattle. Read my statement on the detection of lumpy skin disease in Australian cattle exported to Indonesia: https://t.co/FeisblL1Ss
@DAFFgov
A superb draft of 15 Wave Hill steers averaging 341kg secured the top price at yesterday's Katherine Show sale, making $3.48c/kg or $1180/head. Hats off to the vendors and agents on an excellent event which drew strong live exporter buying support.
@EldersLimited@NTCattlemen
A yard of 42 NT buffalo in from Bishop Bore featured among the drafts of cattle at today’s Katherine Show Sale conducted by Elders. The well presented buffalo were a credit to the vendor, averaging 292kg and achieving $2.46/kg for live export to Indonesia.
You've heard of the charity called "Cows for Cambodia"

The Devon Express looked a treat at East Arm in late June, collecting northern feeder cattle for Indonesia. A regular visitor to Darwin and a quiet workhorse of the live trade. The first time I photographed the Devon was in March 2016 at Portland (Vic) loading breeders for China.
Darwin Port reports a total of 236,550 livestock exported for 2022-23 FY. As expected, well down on the 377,000-head average for the past decade. Nonetheless, 2022-23 ended on a bright note last week, with 3,424 Vietnam-bound breeders loaded at East Arm on the Girolando Express.
