Researchers at #NTUsg have developed a cleaner and more cost-effective way to recycle mixed plastic packaging without using harmful chemical solvents.
The new process, known as depolymerisation-induced polymer separation (DIPS), enables different plastics within multilayer packaging to be separated and recovered more effectively for reuse.
By addressing one of the biggest challenges in plastic recycling, the innovation could help reduce waste while supporting more sustainable and circular material systems.

What if surgery no longer required a single large incision? Scientists at #NTUsg have developed a seed-sized “5-in-1” surgical robot that can move, cut tissue, release drugs, grip and store samples, and generate heat wirelessly for hyperthermic treatments – all while navigating soft and uneven surfaces.
Led by Assoc Prof Lum Guo Zhan from NTU’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the tiny 4.4 mm robot could pave the way for more precise and minimally invasive medical treatments. https://t.co/E0D2lo9Smn

The hidden cost of land development decisions: Land-use changes across Southeast Asia, including deforestation and urban expansion, were linked to around 13,000 excess deaths and US$7.8 billion in economic losses in 2018 alone, according to an #NTUsg study. Published in @TheLancetPlanet, the study found that forest degradation and deforestation were major contributors to worsening air pollution and its associated health impacts across the region.
The findings highlight how sustainable land management and forest conservation can help protect public health, air quality and economic resilience. Read more: https://t.co/8YX5WzZdet

On this #InternationalDayforBiologicalDiversity, #NTUsg is shining a spotlight on student-led #conservation efforts to better understand and protect the rich #biodiversity found across campus.
From the Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot to the Knight butterfly and many more, students documented over 120 species during this year’s Campus Nature Survey, uncovering the remarkable variety of wildlife that calls the University home.
Organised by Earthlink NTU’s Nature Guiding Committee and supported by NTU Student Affairs, the annual initiative brings together the #OneNTU community to explore, observe, and record plant and animal life across campus.
This year, the survey expanded into new areas, while participants new to biodiversity surveying were introduced to the iNaturalist app to help identify species and contribute data to ongoing conservation and research efforts. One notable sighting was of the juvenile ant mantis, which offered a fascinating look at the camouflage and survival strategies in nature.
Beyond documenting species, the survey also encouraged participants to see the campus through a different lens, deepening their appreciation for #wildlife.

Clear advantage: #NTUsg scientists, led by Assoc Prof Annalisa Bruno, have developed ultrathin transparent solar cells that are about 10,000 times thinner than a strand of human hair, and among the most efficient of their kind reported to date.
Developed at the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), the breakthrough could pave the way for windows, vehicle sunroofs and wearable devices that generate electricity without significantly changing their appearance. The semi-transparent and colour-neutral solar cells could also potentially be integrated into building façades to help power urban spaces more sustainably. https://t.co/LpkubJbiRz
