Got this Jaspers book on thriftbooks (tbf it was with one of the free book vouchers), and ts split in HALF the second I picked it up. I suspect a samurai cut it and sheathed his blade the exact moment I made contact.
It really is tragic, though not unbelievable that fascism appealed to him. His emphasis on the horizon of meaning laying across history coheres, I think at least. Been curious to read more on the Frankfurt School's opposition to Heidegger (esp Marcuse since he was his student).
It's one of those nights. I can't sleep. I have ambient music on and my mind is drifting endlessly. The first thought that comes to my mind is about Heidegger. How could one of the most brilliant thinkers of the 20th century align himself with the evil of National Socialism?
@tyorrique On first glance, its clear to me that phenomenology has obvious roots in the scholastics (intentionality ofc, but i was also reading recently on Scotus's influence on Heidegger) and the hermeneutic phenomenologists can also trace other conceptual roots catholicism.
Been a while since i read husserl, forgot how exciting and annoying he is to read. Especially fun since Im reading Nausea with some buds from philosophy club 😁
