Again, my initial tweet was factious lol, I agree with their decision to migrate towards a newer platform version of the system they designed back in 2003, of which at the time was probably a well reasoned choice & admire that they made & continue to support a very successful game written within a language that as modern standards go, is not the right tool for the task.

I don’t agree that Go is “objectively” a terrible language. It has a pretty clear place in distributed/networked systems, and broadly fills the role Stackless Python was chosen for in 2003: making highly concurrent server workloads manageable. My suggestion isn’t based on vibes or trends; it’s based on Go’s actual design goals & evidenced by the fact that Eve themselves chose this language to rewrite certain Ill-performing services in.

@clrnd @EveOnline I’m not sure I’m coming across the way I’m trying too haha, in a modern context python is objectively the wrong tool for this job, in a 2003 context stackless python was a reasonable choice.

For one python is an objectively terrible language to develop any game in (or like… anything).. let alone an MMO at the scale that is Eve.

I looked more into the design here; originally assumed most of the scripting was done with python on top of the core game engine.. but it seems that the majority of the game is legitimately written utilizing Stackless Python (tasklets/channels) this even seems to have caught up with them recently (https://t.co/r6QSU1pEXF) this prompted them to rewrite some things in GO (good idea imo)

If I designed this today I’d probably write the native systems with C/Rust, server side stuff with GO & utilize Lua for scripting but I can understand the justification of Stackless at the time (2003?)

If I was them today I’d put more focus on continuing to rewrite core services in GO rather than migrating to P3 but I guess they might wanna get into a position to take advantage of the newer free-threading stuff.

Look I personally think that HTML / CSS / some level of client side scripting is just a good, well documented, widely supported way to develop GUI applications.. I’d love a lightweight alternative that lets me define my GUI with HTML/CSS that isn’t electron. But learning 100 different OS dependant frameworks to develop a seamless cross-platform GUI is just not the way… this is a market gap waiting to be filled imo

I would like to use this platform right now to earnestly and honestly attempt to communicate legitimate concerns & problems I and many other Canadians have with regard to the federal government and its behaviour as of late.

1. The convenient fallback towards nationalism when it suits your parties interests in contrast to your parties continued objectively contradictory statements framing Canada as a “Post National State” is obvious and egregious; I implore you to officially reject and retract these statements as they are un-Canadian & objectively offensive.

2. Whilst the attitude of America is something that can be encapsulated and discussed from a politically isolated point of view; I think it’s important to understand that the reactionary approach they are taking cannot solely be blamed on them or the current administration.

3. I would like to preface that I don’t say this coming from the standpoint of any political leaning but honestly as a Canadian; it would be prudent of you and your party to transparently release the details of the disputed trade deal along with a record & timeline regarding both sides claims of “last minute adjustments” which shall be attributed to the associated acting parties; Canadians are not dumb & being able to form an objective opinion regarding this situation requires understanding the facts as they lay bare. I would feel more comfortable defending our stance if I was sure that the agreement was not politically motivated; you cannot blame me nor any other Canadian for having at least a feeling that part of the cause of this collapse in negotiations with our largest and most important trading partner may in part be politically motivated. This feeling can obviously be attributed towards the very platform in which you were elected. Again without knowing unbiased objective facts; it’s not possible to make an informed & educated opinion regarding the result as is our civil duty within a democratic society

4. In reality the collapse of these negotiations has a real and meaningful impact on the every day life of regular people just trying to survive, no matter what you feel about the political climate as of late, it cannot go without saying that no matter who blames who the problem itself stands & pretending that we as a Nation are in a stance to absorb the impact of this situation at the federal level is asinine, housing prices are out the roof, Jobs for “unskilled” workers are far and few between, we have record unemployment subjectively far above what we as a nation are willing to report to the world; after a lifetime of empirical evidence and observation it’s become increasingly obvious that things are not right within this country; I make ~100k dollars a year I have done everything that was asked of as a citizen; I have been working my ass off since I was 16 years old to support both me and my family and I have basically nothing to show for it; if anything I am in a worse position now than I was when I was younger; As I continue to grow and work within this economy I - along with many of my peers - continue to work in the face of seemingly endless despair with little to no respite, the promises of our forefathers continue to seem ever so distant and I cannot shake the feeling they would shake their head in shame if they observed our current state.

I don’t understand what I can do as a Canadian to live a simple life, all i ask for is a little place to call my own a place that I can retreat to without worry & no matter how hard I try or what path I plan, I cannot see how this is possible. I foresee a life of endless struggle & compromise; I believe that if you & your party have any heart or soul you would begin to act in a way that aligns with real Canadian problems that clearly effect young Canadians in a day to day basis. Rather than seemingly steadfastly advancing a political agenda that benefits nobody but you and your allies.
