El DeBarge was the soundtrack to a lot of late-80s memories. He had one of those instantly recognizable voices that could float over a track and make it sound effortless.

Songs like Rhythm of the Night, Who’s Johnny, All This Love, and I Like It still hold up today because they weren’t built around trends. They were built around melody, musicianship, and a voice that was genuinely unique.

What’s remarkable is that he’s 65 now.

For many of us, it feels like yesterday that DeBarge was on the radio, Michael Jackson was dominating the charts, and R&B still had that smooth blend of soul, funk, and romance that defined an era.
