Profiling the vintage century of baseball cards (1880-1980), one set at a time, with high-quality scans, valuation, and tips to avoid reprints or counterfeits.
One way the game's changed since their day: Cicotte pitched 269 innings in 1912 with an excellent 1.084 WHIP, but allowed zero homers. One century later, Kershaw won Cy Young & MVP, notched his unreal .857 WHIP in a pitcher's home park, and still allowed 9 homers.
1921-ish W516-2-1 #27 Christy Mathewson "Ex-Giant," miscut to show it sat right below W563 Lincoln. The red/blue print run on these first two cards feature more color than muddier red/black printings for the same sets, perhaps a year later.
Mathewson retired in 1916 and this set came out no earlier than 1920, so "Ex-Giant" is loose dating indeed. Mathewson's delayed inclusion implies Eddie might've appeared on these cards well after his post-1920 Black Sox ban.
New set profile: 1972-73 Sport Grafico Venezuelan Winter League Baseball #5, Manny Trillo, plus some sweet Oakland duds from their 1972-74 dominance.

“It could be worse,” a Colts employee said to me on my way out, “you could be could be covering the White Sox.”
“I do that too.”
“There’s a bar down the street.”

@masapequaparkng 100% true. I’m short a Goudey Gehrig and watching its price zoom up in last few years has been 😮🤯, even if I could sell something to get one.
