I wrote about a public record. Claims a man made about himself, in public, over years, set against documents that were already published. I never messaged him. I never emailed him. I never contacted his family, his colleagues or his employer. Not once.

Since Friday I have been sent:

Death threats. Pictures of knives. Messages hoping I am raped. Messages hoping my family dies. Messages hoping I kill myself.

From people telling me to be kind.

From people who spent this week explaining that words have consequences, that scrutiny can break a person, that we must consider the mental health of those under pressure, that nobody should be hounded.

They mean it, too. They believe every word of it. They just don't think it applies to me, because I asked the wrong questions about the wrong person.

Nobody sending those messages has paused to wonder what they do to the person receiving them. Nobody has asked whether I am vulnerable, or whether I am coping. That concern is reserved. It is issued to some people and withheld from others, and the criteria are not compassion.

I'm not asking for sympathy. I'm pointing at the standard.

If it is monstrous to hound someone, it is monstrous when you do it. If words have consequences, they have consequences in your hands too. If mental health matters, it matters on Tuesday and it matters for people you disagree with.

Otherwise it was never a principle. It was a tactic, and you've just shown everyone which.

Why could GenX afford to buy a house and you can’t?

We bought ourselves cars that barely ran and learned to to fix them with duct tape and baling wire.

Most of you refused to learn to drive and when you finally did, Mommy bought you one and still pays for your gas and insurance.

We lived 6 people to a 1 bedroom so we could move out at 18.

You’ll live with Mommy until you’re 40 because you can’t share a bathroom much less a bedroom.

We got our first “real” job at 14 and have worked 2-3 jobs at a time through school and will until the day we finally retire or die.

You won’t start working until you’re 25 and you cry on day 3 if you haven’t been promoted or if you don’t get praised because you showed up.

We had a 13% interest rate and earned about $500 a week for a full time, above minimum wage job.

You cry about 6% and you’ve never worked a minimum wage job because you think it’s beneath you.

We learned very early on how to regulate our time, our money, and our emotions.

You believe you’re the main character and that your big feelings require others to regulate so you don’t have to.

You want a house? Stop whining and figure it out like every other generation has had to.

Call me a radical but if we want America to be exceptional, then taxpayers who fund all the welfare should have more of a say in our elections than lifelong welfare users. Call me whatever you want but I think it’s nuts to give these two groups the same voting power. One group will always just vote for the person or party that promises them the most "free" stuff that the rest of us pay for.

I have one son. My wife and I want more children, but we’re hesitant because of the time constraints, I work two jobs and she works full-time. So every time I see migrant families in my country with half a dozen kids, it’s a stark reminder of the betrayal I feel from my own government. Especially when my labor is directly subsidizing their ability to have large families while I’m left with nothing. I feel like a lowly slave to them in my own country. This isn’t right. Why do we keep putting up with it?

In the first 30 days of my administration, I’m ending sanctuary city policies/status.

I’m conducting a full forensic audit of all municipal budget activities to find out exactly where taxpayers’ money is going.

I’m also going directly into our communities, talking to citizens and encouraging qualified Chicagoans to apply to become police officers. We will create strong incentives to recruit and retain officers so we can address the shortage of nearly 2,000 officers.

When people know their leadership cares about them, supports them, and has their backs, they don’t mind working hard for you.
