In July, we attended the HIMACUL board meeting with their dedicated smallholder farmers. It was a privilege to hear directly from the farmers about what’s been working well for them and their cooperatives under HIMACUL, as well as opportunities for improvement and collaboration.

As part of their Malawi Partnership pioneered by Central Co-op, Nutcellars are working closely with True Origin and are now supplying Nutcellars Malawi Macadamia into Scotmid Coops mainly in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Their great-great-grandmother, Alice Cameron, arrived from Scotland in Blantyre Malawi in 1905. With support from Equal Exchange, @ScotGovID helped the farmers build a warehouse and become members of Highland Macadamia Co-operative Union Limited (HIMACUL).

@Nutcellars is a family company that sources macadamia nuts from cooperations of smallholder farmers in Malawi. They have been working with the farmers for over 30 years, and have a strong connection to Malawi, the warm heart of Africa.
