“[T]he evaluation found that longer durations of participation in [Assisted Outpatient Treatment] were associated with better housing stability, stronger life skills, and reductions in hospitalization and further interaction with law enforcement. For individuals on an AOT order, the careful and intentional approach that supports individual autonomy and dignity is effective, while also promoting personal and community safety. Together, these findings demonstrate the program’s role in delivering critical care to people who have previously been unable to successfully participate in mental health treatment so they may live safely in their community.”
