Advocating for spring athletes in New York State. #1 goal right now is to make sure all spring sports get to play through Regents exams until the end of June.
How can we improve the spring sports season moving forward? March and April in NYS are not conducive to spring sports and that is when the bulk of the season occurs. Given the timing of Regents exams and end of year activities, wha/how can we change for the better? @RobertZayasNY
Teams are miserable playing the majority of their season in April. Seasons end for the bulk of teams just as the weather is getting better. Why not practice in April, and play May-June, break for exams/grads/etc., and play states early July? It makes too much sense.
Despite the shortened season, this year was awesome because of the fantastic weather. Playing in April makes no sense. This is when spring sports should be playing. We propose NYS find a way to start spring sports later and play sectionals right up until the start of regents
outside because you have to make up games when it’s playable, majority of state ending seasons when the weather finally gets nice so a few teams can have state playoffs doesn’t make sense to us. There has to be a better way. We are open to all suggestions and hope @RobertZayasNY
@TLALAX We are coaches and parents. Aside from being so short, this year was fantastic. We stuck to our schedules, actually had time to practice and had no more conflicts than a normal year. Idea is we break for all the exams, graduations, etc. and resume after for state playoffs.

every year and do state playoffs after exams have finished into the beginning of July. This would maximize the season and weather for ALL teams. We don’t know a coach, player, or parent who wouldn’t do state playoffs after school has finished. @RobertZayasNY@NYSAAA6
@LetCounty@CoachVasselman@jimwright824 It’s the superintendents who make the big decisions. ADs have a say over smaller issues, but superintendents are the final authority and unfortunately most of them don’t give a damn about athletics.
The fact that little league baseball/softball and youth lacrosse leagues have started playing games before high school has started practicing is mind blowing.
