Husband: “Can I ask you something without you getting angry?”

Me: “That depends on what you’re about to ask.”

Husband: “If I made a mistake with another woman, would you forgive me?”

I looked at my husband, Darius, and laughed because I thought he was joking.

Me: “What kind of mistake?”

Darius: “I’m speaking hypothetically.”

Me: “Then hypothetically, I would want to know why my husband was putting himself in a position where another woman could become a problem.”

He didn’t laugh.

We had been married for seven years, and I had never suspected him of cheating. He was a quiet man who rarely went out without telling me where he was going. He worked as a sales representative and sometimes travelled for business, but I had never questioned his movements.

That conversation happened on a Wednesday evening.

The following Friday, he came home unusually late.

Me: “I thought you said you would be home by seven.”

Darius: “The meeting took longer than expected.”

Me: “Did you eat?”

EPISODE 5:

A NEW BEGINNING

The first few weeks away from Daniel were difficult.

Chinasa missed the familiar sound of her family moving around their home. She missed the dreams they had once shared and the man Daniel used to be.

Some nights, she questioned her decision.

Was she giving up too soon? Could things have changed if she had been more patient?

Whenever those thoughts came, she reminded herself why she had left.

She needed peace. Her daughter needed a healthy environment. And a marriage could not survive on one person's sacrifices alone.

Chinasa returned to work with renewed determination. She began saving money, spent more time with Amara, and reconnected with friends she had neglected during the difficult years.

Slowly, her confidence returned.

Meanwhile, Daniel remained in their old home. At first, he believed Chinasa would come back within days. He assumed that, as she had done before, she would eventually forgive him and return.

But the weeks passed, and she did not come back.

For the first time, Daniel had to live with the consequences of his choices.

He began reflecting on the times Chinasa had cried while he dismissed her feelings. He remembered every promise he had broken and every opportunity he had been given to change.

One afternoon, he contacted her and asked to meet.

When they sat together, he did not bring flowers or make dramatic promises. Instead, he admitted that he had taken her love for granted.

“I thought you would always forgive me,” he confessed. “I never considered that one day you might finally become tired.”

Chinasa listened without interrupting.

“I loved you, Daniel. A part of me may always care about you. But caring about someone does not mean accepting the same pain forever.”

He asked whether they could rebuild their marriage.

Chinasa told him she was not ready to make that decision. If reconciliation ever became possible, it would require genuine change, honesty, counselling, and time.

She would not return simply because she felt lonely or because other people expected her to.

Daniel nodded, finally understanding that he could not demand forgiveness.

Months later, Chinasa and Amara were sitting outside their new home, watching the evening sunlight spread across the sky. Her daughter laughed as she told a funny story from school.

Chinasa smiled.

Her life was not perfect, and the future remained uncertain. But she was learning to live without fear.

She had discovered that a woman's strength was not measured by how much pain she could endure, but by her courage to choose what was healthy for herself and her child.

She looked at Amara and whispered, “We are going to be all right.”

And for the first time in a long while, she truly believed it.

Chinasa's story was a reminder that marriage requires honesty, commitment, respect, and effort from both partners. Forgiveness can open the door to healing, but lasting change must be demonstrated through actions.

Sometimes, two people can rebuild what they have broken. At other times, choosing separate paths is the beginning of a healthier life.

Either way, no one should have to disappear inside a marriage just to keep it alive.

LAGOS DOESN’T LOVE ANYBODY 🥀

Dami held his phone tightly.

“Cynthia, you say wetin?”

“I’m pregnant, Dami.”

He looked at Daniel.

Then at the wedding invitation.

“Madam, you dey marry Femi on Saturday!”

Cynthia started crying.

“I know.”

Dami rubbed his forehead.

“See, I no even get money to maintain myself. Now you wan add pikin?”

Daniel collected the phone.

“Cynthia, where are you?”

“At home in Lekki.”

“Stay there. Don’t open your door.”

The call ended.

Dami turned angrily.

“Why you cut my call?”

Daniel sighed.

“Because that pregnancy might be another trap.”

By 11:20 p.m., Dami returned to Akoka.

His room was exactly how he’d left it.

Scattered clothes.

Unwashed plates.

No electricity.

He sat on his mattress.

For the first time in days, he felt completely exhausted.

His phone vibrated.

CYNTHIA: “I’m coming over tomorrow. We need to talk.”

He replied:

“Come with pregnancy test result. I no dey believe anybody again.”

The next morning, Cynthia arrived.

No makeup.

No expensive handbag.

Just a simple dress and swollen eyes.

She handed him a hospital report.

Dami read it.

Positive pregnancy test.

He slowly sat down.

“Cynthia, even if you’re pregnant, how you sure say na me?”

She looked away.

“I don’t know.”

Dami laughed bitterly.

“At least you finally talk truth.”

Cynthia started crying.

“Femi can’t find out before the wedding.”

Dami stood up.

“Then postpone the wedding!”

Before she could answer, someone knocked.

Three times.

Dami opened the door.

Femi stood outside.

Holding a brown envelope.

“Good morning, Damilare.”

Dami froze.

Femi walked inside and dropped the envelope on the table.

“₦10 million. Leave Lagos before Saturday.”

Dami stared at him.

“Why?”

Femi smiled.

“Because I know Cynthia is pregnant.”

He paused.

“And I know exactly who the father is.”

TO BE CONTINUED… 🥀

In Lagos, sometimes the biggest problem isn’t getting a woman pregnant. It’s discovering who else knows about it.

My sister named her daughter after me. I spent the next six years making her regret it. Now she's dead, and I'm the only person who knows what really happened.

My name is Vanessa. I'm 31, and I've never liked my younger sister, Camille.

I know how horrible that sounds, but let me explain.

Growing up, Camille was the golden child. She was prettier, sweeter, more approachable, and somehow managed to make everyone feel like loving her was their own idea.

I was the difficult one. The ambitious one. The daughter who had to earn every compliment.

When we were 24 and 27, Camille got pregnant.

I was the first person she told.

She cried, hugged me, and said if it was a girl, she wanted to name the baby Vanessa.

After me.

I should have been touched.

Instead, I felt sick.

Because Camille had spent her entire life taking things that belonged to me, and now she wanted to take my name too.

I told her it was weird.

She laughed.

I told her I didn't want her daughter named after me.

She called me dramatic.

Three months later, she gave birth to a beautiful little girl.

And named her Vanessa anyway.

The entire family thought it was adorable.

I thought it was the beginning of something terrible.
