Having stood with Boss and his roading crew at the washed out bridge just 1 week ago with predictions saying crucial repair was weeks away, this is an incredible feat. What an amazing local effort to link up cut off whanau on the coast.
Not all heroes wear capes! These amazing East Coasties fixed the bridge 11 days ahead of schedule on the ONLY road State Highway 35! This allowed crucial services to resume. Blackbee contractors are an example of what increased local procurement can do! By local for local!
Had a couple of milestones slip past recently.

Nice.
Good to see the New Zealand parliament flying the Ukrainian flag today in support of it's brave people. We stand with Ukraine during this senseless immoral invasion.
Unbelievably sad news that Jeroen Jongejans from Dive Tutukaka passed away suddenly last night. A relentless driving force behind the Poor Knights Marine reserve, leaving one hell of a legacy. Thinking of you Kate and dive tuts whanau, awful news to take in.
โThe death toll during the Omicron wave is about 17 percent higher so far than the death toll in the Delta wave.โ
People downplaying population level effects of #Omicron in the USA are in dangerous denial.

Through excess Covid deaths NZ is 1 of only 3 countries in the world where life expectancy has actually increased.
We also have 98% of teachers vaccinated.
But best of all my hometown is only 500 short of hitting 90% first dose.
Ka pai to all of this.
It's the No 1 recommendation in the Heralds Gifts for Gourmets guide & fancy endorsement from the man himself, Mr Peter Gordon. I enjoy creating things but I'm a bit useless at promotion of said creations, so its lovely to have the support!
Christmas is how far away you say??
I only come to twitter to check this site, and what bloody good news to find. The incredible little battler 4BWRB - the little Godwit that got knocked back to Alaska after a massive 57 hour 4000km effort having to start again, only to end in New Cal, is now FINALLY coming home!
The transmitter godwits that have been resting in New Caledonia for sometime are now on their way to New Zealand, hopefully we can catch up with them as soon as the COVID restrictions are eased
From LK HQ:
"The store had agreed to display the notice at the request of a local community member. LK strongly supports New Zealandโs COVID-19 vaccination efforts to protect our staff and customers. The sign has been taken down."
UPDATE: Hey you with the 6 pack of Long Whites and fist full of Purple Goanna's, sorry to disappoint, but LK HQ have been in touch and it sounds like someone has gone down the main street handing the signs out & they've been naively put up.
It's not everyday you see Wonder Woman being told off by a Prime Minister for sneaking out of the house to use her new trampoline, but these are the crazy times we live in I guess.
Well what a relief, the bird is now safely in NZ, after making the necessary course correction just in time, but covered about 4900km to cover the direct route of 3000km, nature is amazing do you agree
