New Zealand is a steadfast ally of the UK. Our defence relationship is built on incredibly strong people to people links. It was great to meet the new NZ High Commissioner to the UK yesterday @NZinUK and I was particularly thankful for NZ's strong financial support for Ukraine.
Spoke with UK Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer over the phone last night.
We discussed the situation in the Middle East. With high fuel prices causing pain in Kiwis’ back pockets, we agreed on the importance of diplomacy to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and get shipping flowing freely again.
Both the United Kingdom and New Zealand are steadfast in our support for Ukraine, so it was good to compare notes on how to maintain the pressure on Russia.
The United Kingdom is an important partner to New Zealand: we’re doing a lot together to advance our prosperity and build global security.
Great to catch up in London with Pacific colleagues from Australia, Tonga, Samoa and Fiji – staying connected, sharing insights, and working together on our shared priorities in the UK.
🇳🇿🇵🇱🇺🇦🇳🇴 NZ remains steadfast in backing Ukraine - and we've adapted our support to deliver high-impact training closer to where it’s needed most.
Great to see NZ Defence Force personnel joining the Norwegian-led Operation Legio training mission here in Poland.
Dziękuję bardzo to our friends at the Polish Armed Forces for their outstanding support.

We will continue to express our concern and take action including regarding Russian information warfare - last week New Zealand’s 35th tranche of Russia Sanctions designated the Social Design Agency for its role in disseminating anti-Ukraine propaganda.
New Zealand stands in support of the United Kingdom’s efforts to expose Russia’s ongoing malign activity and the forced relocation or re-education of Ukrainian children.

Maritime security and freedom of navigation are critical to NZ’s interests — and crucial for global peace and stability.
New Zealand supports efforts to call on all states to respect international law and to uphold the fundamental principles of international prosperity and security.
This is why New Zealand has joined this statement condemning Iran’s attacks on civilian vessels ⬇️

Attacks on fuel tankers and energy infrastructure in the Middle East are leading directly to higher fuel prices for Kiwis.
That’s why we have joined the United Kingdom and other countries in condemning Iran’s attacks in the Gulf. Iran has forced the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz to ships carrying fuel and other critical goods to places like New Zealand.
New Zealand has a longstanding record of working with like-minded partners to ensure open supply lines for global trade.
Obviously, any future decision for New Zealand to support multilateral efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would need to be considered by Cabinet.
The Minister visited @MFATNZ’s Emergency Coordination Centre in Wellington this morning to thank those working on New Zealand’s response to the crisis in the Middle East - both here and in the region.
“The events in the Middle East are fast-moving, dangerous, and complex,” the Minister said. “We are particularly grateful for the sacrifices that MFAT staff and other government officials are making to serve NZ during these challenging times.”
