I keep telling Kenyans to watch the madness that is the Machakos County Government & the wider implications on our national politics.

The recent invasion of the Machakos County Assembly offices is part of a growing trend of violence and intimidation embraced by Governor Wavinya Ndeti on anyone who questions her authority, her actions yesterday represent a grave threat to constitutionalism and directly violates fundamental principles underpinning our governance. Anyone seeking insights as to the possible workings of a Kalonzo presidency should look no further than the circus that is Machakos County, the county he insists on micromanaging. Machakos remains Kenya’s most glaring example of how devolution without direction , purpose & accountability can completely reverse the development of an entire region. #CaveatEmptor

When June 25th/ 2024 happened , neither the establishment nor the opposition had any clue what had just hit the country. They still don’t. My advice to all the old folks thinking that they are the new found managers of the Gen Z movement is this ..Whether we like it or not, our politics ,our economy & our social structures will have to bend to the will of the majority generation. It won’t be shaped by the political elite , this Genz OS doesn’t operate on the GenX, Baby Boomer code. Their software is nimble , rewriting itself daily to survive adversity but ultimately it aims to dominate. Better bring them to the proverbial table early before they remove it entirely!

Sadly I get heart breaking updates from the medical staff at the hospital on a regular basis. If there is one aspect of devolution that we shall have to get right no matter what, is get our public health facilities in the entire county to give better quality service to patients . You have my commitment that with the help of stakeholders I’ll make it happen.

True to form …my county Machakos has to feature in the top 3 worst performing counties . If folks are not careful.. it won’t be long before someone starts to query whether it’s the Governor who is the problem or the party that sponsors her….

My 2 cents on #Singapore:- it’s good to dream,but it’s better to plan. Now is the time to depoliticise national development planning & to flee from the curse of thinking in 5yr political cycles. #Vision2030 is in its sunset & it is incumbent on the President to convene a non-partisan, multi stakeholder dialogue to start preparing the framework for #Vison2080. This process will be an opportunity for thought leaders from across the divide & all key sectors of our society to come together to chart the long term future of our Nation devoid of partisan bias & myopic rhetoric. It is great for the President to be the vision bearer & to have clarity of thought on the destination that he wishes to take Kenya, but for development to be seen & felt it requires ownership by the citizenry. Any other way will fail spectacularly.

If the new chairman wants to help this country , he must first acknowledge that he’s leading a structurally weak institution, with processes that offer significant loopholes for manipulation . From nominations through to the selection of polling clerks & counting of votes in the dark, IEBC’s role in our electoral politics is more of a competitor than a fair , capable and neutral custodian of the election process .

It is disappointing to see the politicisation of Kenya’s counter terrorism effort.There are many things we can drop the ball on, but this should never be one of them. Irrespective of how we view our domestic politics, Kenya has not stopped being a frontline State in the fight against violent extremism! In-fact , given developments in our region, we are tasked to be more vigilant than ever. There is a world in which civil society concerns can be addressed without undermining the operations of those tasked to protect us , our freedoms and our way of life.Take it from me , whatever other sins our security services may be guilty of , I know first hand that extraordinary sacrifices have been made by men and women who will never be celebrated or publicly acknowledged. Let us leave them to do their work , where they go wrong , let’s deal with the wrong doers as individuals and work towards improving the system , not destroying it.

MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FROM H.E. UHURU KENYATTA FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF FORMER PRIME MINISTER HON. RAILA AMOLO ODINGA.

My heart is heavy, and my spirit is burdened with a grief that is both profound and deeply personal. The news of Raila’s passing has left a silence that echoes across our nation, a silence where once there was a voice of thunder and conviction.

To me, Raila was more than a political colleague; he was a defining part of my own journey, in public service and in life. Raila and I were navigators on opposing currents, charting different courses for the nation we both loved. At some point along that journey, we became political opponents and often, the weight of that competition felt immense.

Baba, as we fondly referred to him, was a man who made you sharpen your own ideas, compelling you to defend your positions with rigor and passion.
However, in the recent years, a different bond was forged; one of respect, of shared patriotism, and a common desire to see a united Kenya.

That journey from fierce political opponents to partners in the pursuit of “Handshake” unity taught me the true measure of the man. I saw firsthand his unwavering passion for this country, his deep-seated belief in justice, and his incredible capacity to think beyond personal ambition for the sake of national peace. He was a formidable opponent, but he was an even more invaluable ally in the cause of reconciliation.

I have lost a friend and a brother. I will miss our conversations sometimes challenging, always insightful and the fire of belief that never left his eyes.

To Mama Ida, the children, and the entire Odinga family, I extend my deepest, most heartfelt condolences. You have shared Baba with Kenya for a lifetime, and we mourn with you. We have lost a father to the nation, a steadfast champion for the people, and a true son of Kenya.

His legacy is not just in the political battles he fought, but in the peace he helped build. It is etched in the very fabric of our nation. Rest in peace, my brother. Your work here is done, but your echo will never fade.
