Key points from today’s NZTR communication to stakeholders
· If training resumes in May, anticipate trials in late May & return to racing in July.
· Reduced network of venues, initial focus on racing near horse populations.
· North Island jumps racing to resume, unlikely in South Island due to likely travel restrictions.
· Group & Listed race pattern still a work in progress.
· NZTR payroll & contractor costs reduced by 20%, CEO by 25%, Directors by 100%.
· Free racing, flexible programmes with initial racing over shorter distances.
· Minimum stakes retained, reductions higher up the chain aimed at a spread of returns to owners.
Go Woody!
Well done to Tony Gillies & team for your win with Woodsman at Warrnambool yesterday. Great to see you keep the Kiwi flag flying during these difficult times.
Important message.
Please note that Raceform will not be published while NZ racing is in shutdown. Rest assured that Raceform will be back bigger and better as soon as racing resumes.
We're all in this together, keep well everyone out there.
Tony Pike has confirmed the All Aged Stakes at Randwick in three week's time for The Bostonian.
"It's a $600,000 race on his doorstep so it's an obvious target," Pike told Raceform. “Sherwood Forest was good too, he's right on target for the Derby."
Opie Bosson has been suspended until April 2 for interference on Te Akau Shark. He also faces a stewards' inquiry into the tactics he adopted in remaining wide in the running on The Shark.
Racing's version of Lonely Planet. Under an empty Tauranga grandstand, Danielle Johnson prepares to unsaddle Scott Base after an emphatic Ultimate Mazda Japan Trophy win.
