Councillor Carl Walter was elected to the position of Mayor of Oadby & Wigston for the 2026-27 municipal year at the council's AGM earlier this week (12 May).
The non-political role of mayor is ceremonial, with the mayor acting as First Citizen of Oadby & Wigston and representing the council at events and civic functions.
Cllr Walter said: โIt is a real privilege to be elected to the position of mayor and to represent the residents of South Wigston, Wigston and Oadby. I will do my utmost to uphold the traditions of the borough, to support the local communities and put Oadby & Wigston on the map.
โI have chosen two local charities that mean a lot to me and do a lot of great work in our borough to support during my term - The Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Clubs and the Leicester Tigers Foundation.
โI would also like to say a massive thank you to our outgoing mayor, Cllr Jasvir Kaur Chohan, and to her consort Kuldip Singh Chohan for their outstanding service to the borough and county in the past 12 months.โ
