Today in Hoima City, I was elected Northern Regional Female Coordinator of the Urban Authority Association of Uganda.

The Association brings together Mayors, Town Clerks and Speakers from across the country and this role means working closely with and coordinating everyone in the Northern Region.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who believed in me and put their trust in me. This win truly belongs to Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City and Northern Uganda, your support is what gave me the confidence and the chance to serve at this level.

Less than three months after being elected Vice Chairperson of the Division Mayors and Town Clerks in Uganda, I’m humbled to receive another opportunity to serve.

Thank you for believing in me. I carry Laroo-Pece and Gulu City with me wherever I go.

Today, I officiated a training for @LarooPece Health Centre In-charges, VHTs, Nurses and Midwives on the upcoming Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign for children aged 9 months–4 years.

Today, we received a information that women who sell fish at Gulu Main Market, Oliyilong and Cerelono Markets were demonstrating at the Yalelo Gulu City branch. We immediately rushed to Yalelo to engage with the situation.

We call upon everyone to remain calm as we handle the matter with the relevant authorities.

I will provide an update shortly.

Following concerns raised by women who sell fresh fish at Gulu Main Market, Oliyilong and Cerelono Markets, we immediately went to Yalelo Gulu to engage with the management and address the situation.

This is not the first time this matter has been discussed. Yalelo Gulu branch was issued a Council operating permit allowing wholesale fish sales of 10kg and above. However, concerns have continued over retail sales, which are affecting fish traders in the different markets.

After today’s engagement, it was agreed that Yalelo Gulu will clear its available stock, after which operations will be halted tomorrow as we convene another meeting to find a lasting solution.

We appreciate everyone who raised their concerns. Our commitment is to find a fair solution that protects livelihoods while ensuring compliance with the agreed guidelines.

Yesterday, Shaping and Compaction works began on the roads we recently opened in Pawel Ward. This afternoon, I visited the area to check on the progress and I’m pleased with the work so far.

The roads are taking shape and becoming smoother, making movement easier for our people.

A total of eight new roads have been opened in Pawel Ward. We will continue shaping and improving them to ensure better and safer road access for our people.

Today, we had a intense meeting in my area, Tegwana Ward as we discussed the proposed replacement of LC executives who also serve as PDM SACCO leaders.

Members spoke openly and firmly rejected what they saw as personal interests, choosing instead to retain their current leaders.

A productive Monday comes to an end. City engagements, road pegging inspections in Pece Prison Ward, planning with our Mayor, H/W @GifterAber and several other activities throughout the day.

Congrats to the Elite Ushering Agency on today’s AGM. I regret missing due to lectures, but I fully support all initiatives and resolutions from today’s meeting.

This afternoon, we sat down with Gulu Main Market leaders at @LarooPece Division Headquarters to listen to the concerns affecting traders, customers and the growth of our Main Market.

A number of issues were raised, We have agreed on the following immediate actions:

1. CCTV cameras.
On Monday, I have cancelled my other programmes to be at the Main Market together with the Town Clerk and the technical team to identify the points for installing CCTV cameras. From Monday, we begin the process and we expect the camera issue to be addressed within the week, subject to any technical requirements.

2. Security company.
Stone Wall Security Company, which currently provides security outside the market, should take full responsibility for security both inside and outside the market. This will also strengthen accountability in the event of theft or other security incidents.

3. Master keys and padlocks
Concerns were raised about the existing master keys. We have therefore agreed that the market padlocks will be replaced with new ones.

4. Opening and closing of the market.
The market has 34 gates, only one person is currently responsible for opening and closing them. Two additional support staff be assigned to support him so that this responsibility is not left to one person.

5. Special security meeting.
The security team will also sit separately for a special operations meeting to review how security at the market can be strengthened further.

These are some of the immediate steps we are taking. There is still more to do, but we have started with the issues that require urgent attention.
