And now adding Paris Hilton to the list of celebrities that have used surrogacy to procure a child. Is this just going to be normalised? I will never stop finding the practice and the people who use it as abhorrent, no matter how much it is normalised.
ADOPTEES: have y’all seen this garbage @HuffPost is putting out??

1. Beggars and Choosers: How the Politics of Choice Shapes Adoption, Abortion, and Welfare in the United States (Solinger)
Great analysis of the idea of "choice" & consumerism, and of popular myths that have defined public policy
OMG. How many stories like this are we going to see until people actually accept:
“When there is a crisis, be it a war, an invasion or a natural disaster, that is not a time to initiate intercountry adoptions or even domestic adoptions." https://t.co/IoopQpFidG
Respectfully, #prochoice folks who once told adoptee activists that being critical of #adoption was offensive to LGBTQIA+ or infertile folks… but now no longer strawman us so as to use our intellectual labor & pain to save #RoeVWade
Pls consider apologizing first. Thank you.
After watching so many adopted people reclaiming their racial identities and reconnecting with their culture(s)-of-origin, it seems especially violent to see someone examine a profile photo, declare the adopted person “wh!te” and leave them no room for racial reclamation.
Today, I got pictures of my first mother and maternal grandmother. Both of them have passed before I could ever find them. My heart is heavy right now. Seeing myself in them… Another reminder of all I have lost with my adoption… #adopteevoices
Why is plenary adoption the solution? Why must one family be legally killed off for a child to gain a new one? Is it really to the child's benefit to pretend their past never existed? #adopteerights /14
1/ Genetic mirroring works both ways. Children need to see themselves reflected in those around them to achieve validation of self, something most people take for granted, but eludes adoptees.
Increasingly this is what we are dealing with. Not copies of paper files but digital files or data locked away and made unavailable. This is already true with birth records--"birth certificate" has far different context today than it did 20 years ago.
I was adopted by a loving family, and I am grateful, especially when I hear the neglect and abuse some adoptees have had to endure. But being loved doesn’t take away the trauma of separation, alienation and being lied to. #adopteevoices#adopteetwitter#IAN1
