This past summer, the O’Brien lab was lucky to host Mikayla Jones, a Mississippi State University undergraduate, to work in our lab! Her work was focused on the impacts of skin pigmentation on laser doppler and laser speckle imaging, and she recently presented her work at BMES!

This past summer, the O’Brien lab was fortunate to have Mara Manolescu, an undergraduate from Kansas University, work in our lab! Her work was focused on cervical mucus analysis as a predictor for preterm birth, and she presented her work at BMES in October!

This year, senior design students in the O’Brien Lab:
- Developed a non-invasive tool to optimize prescriptions for heart failure
- Created a system to monitor postpartum blood pressure in resource-limited areas
- Designed an imaging tool to monitor cervical dilation during labor

Dr. O’Brien was recently on a Women’s Health panel at #OpticaBiophotonics24 with fellow researchers & maternal health providers. The panel explored how socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, & geography affect maternal health. Their goal? To secure top-level care for all moms. 🌎
