@tracycorrigan And look who @tracycorrigan was reporting into during her time at WSJ. Why yes, it’s Tortoise co-founder & shareholder, Katie Vanneck-Smith.
It’s not a smoking yacht..but looks like she has more connections to Tortoise (at least 1) than the Observer (none)
For latest on Guardian’s ‘sale’ of the Observer, see @gonuj93. Over here, we’re going to take a closer look at the decision makers.
First up @tracycorrigan. This week, she took a break from her duties on Scott Trust board to write about how she’s ‘agnostic’ on climate change 😱
The Scott Trust was set up to preserve the Guardian in perpetuity. But @tracycorrigan is only UK journalist on the board outside the ed & journalist director.
Selected after a distinguished career working alongside close associate Will Lewis - now CEO of WaPo - for Mr Murdoch
We strike again tomorrow and Friday.

The strength of feeling is undimmed 💪⬇️
Scott Trust and Guardian management face staff fury over Observer sale.
One speaker said today the process was “damaging for the reputation of The Guardian, you should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves” – to which there was applause and cheering. https://t.co/aM2NwEHjhN
One journalist accused the Guardian leadership team of “riding roughshod over the Scott Trust values of integrity and honesty”.
Another said: “You want The Observer behind a paywall so that it is not a rival to The Guardian.” https://t.co/aM2NwEHR7l
Update: Around 100 Guardian and Observer journalists, and several hundred more joining online, attended a meeting of the joint @NUJofficial chapel this afternoon and agreed to press on with a second 48-hour strike scheduled for next week. https://t.co/aM2NwEHjhN
Appalling decision. The Scott Trust should hangs its head in shame. A total betrayal of journalists at the Observer/Guardian and their wages/conditions - https://t.co/5J9NZpLT2N @gonuj93@NUJofficial@carolecadwalla@shattenstone
Large number of Guardian and Observer journalists on strike today outside their London offices over proposed sale of the Observer to Tortoise Media. #savetheObserver@gonuj93
EXC: A gatecrasher has offered to double investment in The Observer to £50m in a bid to scupper the sale to Tortoise.

“This cannot happen”
The wonderful Jemma Redgrave speaking at our picketline.
Of course it couldn’t be a protest against injustice without a #redgrave. 🧡
Thank you thank you thank you Jemma 🙏
#savetheobserver
A massive thank you to everrybody who turned up at the picketline to support our strike to Save the Observer. It was truly inspiring to witness such solidarity, passion and good humour ✊🏽✊✊🏿💙💙
Joe Lycett, comedian, says:
“This deal is baffling to me; I fully support the striking journalists against this opaque, rushed and frankly bizarre attempt to sell off the Observer.”
#savetheobserver 🙏🏻
The poets (and Guardian/Observer) united will never be defeated.
Huge thanks to @lemnsissay and @MichaelRosenYes for showing amazing support at our strike today and just being top, top people.
Love ya Poets 🏿✊✊💙💙
On strike with Guardian colleagues today opposing the Observer sale. I’m not on the picket line because I’m in Liverpool to take my mother to watch Everton
The message on my Guardian football shirt applies to the Observer, not #EFC, who are very much for sale
Just to be clear
Thank you to all who joined us today. Another brilliant day on our historic picketline, including surprise guests Green Gartside and Jemma Redgrave.
Last ones standing pic below…
See you next week. It’s been immense.
Solidarity, love and people power 🧡✊
I'm now freelance, but was on the staff at the Guardian for 15 years, including 7 years on the Observer. Solidarity with colleagues who are on strike for 48 hours in protest at the proposed sale of the Observer.

I stand with my former colleagues at the Observer and the Guardian who are striking today over the proposed sale of the Obs to Tortoise Media, and am proud to have donated my penguin (who has become their mascot) to the cause. Handing over Britain’s oldest newspaper to a smaller, financially uncertain media outlet will not only risk the paper’s journalistic integrity by stripping it of its editorial support and global reach, but will threaten its commitment to truth. In a world where strong independent voices are harder and harder to find, let’s not let another be muffled. #SaveTheObserver
