After stabilising the security situation in Kerio Valley, the Government is undertaking affirmative action to spur economic development.

Today, I was honoured to accompany the President, H.E. Dr William Samoei Ruto, on the first day of his development tour of the North Rift region which kicked off at Liter Girls in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Among the projects that the President commissioned are Liter Girls High School, an ICT lab at Kerio Valley Technical and Vocational College, and a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus. The President also inspected the ongoing construction of the Kipkundul-Kapyego-Kamelei road and issued title deeds to individuals following the successful adjudication of communal land.

To consolidate the gains already made, the Government will set up infrastructure to make the presence of law enforcement officers in the area permanent. Also in the pipeline are more roads, electrification and value-addition projects.

Guidance has come from the Kenya Revenue Authority regarding the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 & the Dec 27th effective date.

The import here, as widely expected, is that the provisions are applicable for the entire month. In other words, no prorated application is expected (see quoted tweet).

So Affordable Housing Levy & Social Health Insurance Fund as allowable deductions apply to the entire December 2024.

There was a pretty rich debate in the National Assembly regarding the proposed amendment to Sec5 of the VAT Act via the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 New Clause 16A.

In the event that a procuring entity fails to make payment within the agreed time frame, should the tax obligation still be the liability of the registered person making the supply? Should it be the liability of the procuring entity?

The legislator behind the proposal, Gatanga MP Wakili Múríu, sought to have that liability transferred to the procuring entity.
