Our VC couldn't give a Ziff about her staff and students. She is so disconnected from us: on a £336k salary while some Unison members work second jobs and rely on food banks to survive. It REALLY is that terrible. It's laughable that she can't understand that #takingtheziff
We're alarmed by the planned Ziff Building closure to students without appointments. We've written to the University urging suspension of planned changes until full consultation has taken place with all stakeholders. Support and solidarity to colleagues and students.
Now this is really #TakingTheZiff…
Instead of talking to students who protest in support of their staff or for climate action, Leeds Uni management have instead decided to close the *student services* building to students, move the Lifelong Learning Centre and shut the cafe!
STATEMENT FROM LEEDS STUDENT STAFF SOLIDARITY:
The University of Leeds are closing the Ziff Building to students over the threat of student occupations.
That’s right. The university are closing a building to their own students.
@UniversityLeeds, reverse this decision.

After two weeks of occupation, Student Rebellion has left the Esther Simpson lecture theatre. This is not a decision taken lightly: the University still has not met with us about our demands to cut all ties to the fossil fuel industry. (1/9)
I am very pleased with the statement by dean of my @LeedsBusinessSchool acknowledging genuine and legitimate spirit of the occupation by Student Rebellion @srleeds_ which is demanding end of funding from fossil companies and ethical careers. Central management should meet them!
Today, Uni of Leeds announced another £650 cost of living payment for staff members on pay grade scale 6 and below.
This is positive, however postgraduate researchers who teach are EXEMPT from this payment as they are treated as ‘workers’ instead of ‘staff’ due to casualisation.
You won't come to us, so we've come to you. We're taken the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building while still occupying Esther Simpson! We will occupy here until @UniversityLeeds management talks to us.
@SEBuitendijk @endfossil@endfossiluk
We stand in solidarity with Student Rebellion ✊
It’s time for senior management to engage in dialogue with students and staff about how this university responds to the climate emergency.

TODAY is the final LUU consultation on strike action so make sure to make your voice heard.
The meeting is taking place online from 5-6pm: https://t.co/bOnsPX4C5U
STUDENTS HAVE OCCUPIED ZIFF BUILDING AS WELL AS ESTHER SIMPSON
This is where the vice chancellor and senior management offices are. We're at your door! This occupation will NOT end until management agree to have a dialogue with us, rather than sending legal threats or ignoring us
"You can shove your court order up your arse!"
Management should take heed: you can threaten us with expulsion and injunctions without speaking to us but, you might find it doesn't have the effect you wanted...
An enormous turnout in support of the @srleeds_ climate demands here at the University of Leeds. The demands are reasonable and should be adopted as a matter of urgency.
It’s time for the university to communicate instead of threatening students with intimidation tactics.
📢Rally tonight @5pm at the Wavy Bacon statue in support of the occupiers! 📢
The University of Leeds is rotten to the core.
Showing up, in-person is the only way we can re-inspire each other as staff, students and fellow humans, to make the change we all need ✊
Massive love and respect to these guys ✊🫶
Threatened with expulsion for speaking about the £11.2+ million the University accepts from fossil fuel companies!
This University is exceptionally trigger-happy when it comes to ANY kind of protest from students and staff alike.
🚨BREAKING🚨
Members have negotiated an agreement for local progress on USS pensions, casualisation, workloads, equal pay & grading so have suspended our marking & assessment boycott. These local agreements are in support of our ongoing national dispute https://t.co/tZMUTlXRcV
Senior managers got wind of the notification email just an hour before it went out to all staff. They were not consulted. They were not given advice on how to manage the issue.
@seasidelass20 As students we also want proper tuition. But looking at the broader issues it’s clear that it’s the senior management preventing us getting a proper education not the staff. They don’t want to strike. Their fight for better working conditions is our fight for our education
There’s a movement brewing and it needs us all. Our occupation didn’t take much and we don’t want thanks. We want to see our university flourish into the community it can be, where students and staff stand in solidarity. WE #TookTheZiff (7/7)
This evening, all occupiers have left University of Leeds campus. Whilst we would have loved to go on until our demands were met, logistically we could not stay that long. (1/7)
Students; if you’ve been moved by this it’s your time so step up and take our place. Your voice is more valued and louder than you think. Solving these problems means standing up, stepping out of Twitter and knocking at management’s door. (6/7)
