We’ve been to the moon and wiped diseases off the map, yet global happiness levels have been largely flat for decades. How can we build a happier civilization?
Neurotech could offer a new way forward. We already have devices that can shift our mood by reading and stimulating brain activity with precision. They’re being used to treat depression and anxiety, but they could soon move from the lab to the mainstream.
Scaled responsibly, this could decrease societal violence and excessive consumerism. But we need to build ethical governance to prevent addiction or misuse for authoritarian control.
